I was out on Leg 4 yesterday and you could only really run at the centre of the track. A lot of gates as well.
I live near to Leg 5 and had planned to go out there last wednesday but chickened out with the weather :(

You should see it today the dodgy ice has been covered with a couple of feet of snow. Great fun to run in but mighty hard work !
Just this minute got back from plodding through the drifts on Rooley Moor Road.....I cant remember the last time it was that deep. The snow is hard going and a bit of fun but there is still a lot of ice about which is the main problem. Its going to take a big thaw to shift it and there is no sign of that as yey.
did most of leg one today......very icy on main tracks under the snow, then came back over Thieveley.Great to be out but hard work ploughing through big drifts.
More fun in the dark Richard. I nearly got lost in a drift on the way up to Whittle pike:D
Road closure...........THIS WILL AFFECT LEG 2 + LEG 1 RUNNERS.
The A 646 Burnley to Todmorden Road will be closed at its junction with the A671 for work on the railway bridge at GR SD859302 on the Sunday of the event. For those travelling from the Rossendale or Burnley area the road to Walk Mill/Cliviger/Holme Chapel is closed.
To gain access to the first changeover at the Long Causway you will have to continue into Burnley turning right at the traffic lights and going past Turf Moor.(Burnley Football ground ) heading towards Worsthorne. Access to the Long Causway road can then be regained at Mereclough.
This will add possibly 5-10 minutes to your journey. Anyone travelling from the Todmorden area will not be affected.
take the road through Townley Park......bit shorter.
With only 3 weeks on Sunday before the event it is going to be difficult for clubs/individuals to get out and recce their legs (which we reccomend) given the present weather conditions. With lots of new clubs entering this year this could be a problem on race day. Whilst the route is pretty well waymarked finding your way on the day of the race might not be easy and the team in front who may know the way might not be in sight.
Anyone considering a recce might well have fun in the snow but the drifts are very deep high up and extra time and gear should perhaps be considered as well as companionship and care........i am hoping for a mega thaw !
anyone have good directions to start of leg two coming from Leeds direction (pudsey) please?
