Three Peaks Fell Race

What a great day!! Superb organisation, wonderful views, great support (Particularly the cowbells - it was Crinkle Crags all over again -, oh and the penny whistle, or did I just imagine that??).
Finished in 4.53 - definitely went too fast down PYG (like I was doing some kind of short 5 miler or something) but it was such a nice descent!!
Was over-worried re cut offs. In the end I got to Ribblehead and Hill Inn with about 15 mins to spare at each, but since I'd been obsessing about doing so I had a mini-crisis of confidence just after Hill Inn when there was some bouts of walking. Vaguely thought about joining a chap sat in the minibus but thankfully saw that that would be utter madness!
Whernside definitely the most difficult, I think parlty because of the bog at the bottom. Lovely, inspiring finish. Definitely back next year.:) Now, do I do Borrowdale??:o

Another 20 yards and I would have got you:) Good run AR. I was bang on schedule for a 4:30 finish at the top of Ingleborough but decided to take a header just before the first ladder stile on the run off. Cut knee and hip and winded me for a minute.
Great day out and thanks to all those supporting and marshalling. To Milli and Hot Dog for encouragement on the last climb. Also nice to see ChesterBlue - aren't you glad you got that qualifying race in:D

You didn't imagine the penny whistle unless you were having the same hallucinations as me. It took me a whole 44 minutes up Inglebugger about 10 mins slower than intended I think I was hallucinating at that point :eek:

Was going well till half a mile past the Hill Inn and then the dreaded cramp started,always get it bad on this race, not so much my calves its always my inner thighs. Will have to do some research into it,because it ruins every Three Peaks race I do :mad:
Well done to Daleside who just pipped me at the post ! lulling me into a false sense of security with all this stuff about not meeting cut off times.
Well done Manhar too,will have to introduce myself next time I see you.

yes the lady with what i thought was a recorder was great - i was going to shout - 'has your hubby chucked you out the house to practice that thing' and thought maybe that would be a bit mean as probably every other second runner had said it to her! so i just gave her a wave -

i had been really worried about the cutoffs and had a really low point as i got into hill inn with ten mins to spare as it suddenly struck me i was going to have to finish the thing, i felt overwhelmed with what i had done and what still had to be done and felt like crying and saying 'I cant do it'! I sat down for a min with our coach who just said get on with it lass - catch em up! so i trotted along reaching a walking manhar and felt better that i had encouraged him to trot along with me.

just seen your past dave - (leeds rhino) - I'm sorry about pipping you on the post - but you seemed to spend an awful long time on the stile! I'm off to get a new car now but may be on for pint later - text me your plans!

Well done to all forumites some great times there for the people I know compared to last year.

Also some smashing first time runs.

me too, though mine started (inner thighs) coming of Ing' was the first 3peaks for me, but i suffered like this at borrowdale last year, and it really P****S me off....dont know whether its the heat (being de-hydrated) or the time on the feet, as i can feel myself slowing after 2.5 hours, and then the cramps start after around 3 hours. though i was fine during the edale skyline, so im putting my condition down to hydration :mad::mad::mad:

what is it with the 3 Peaks and inner thigh cramp. I too have suffered with this on the last 3 attempts. Never had it on other races ! I made sure I took plenty of fluid with me this year and more importantly made sure I drank it but still got it coming off Inglebugger. Any thoughts on the fact that some of the climbs on the Peaks are so steep that you have to bend your legs more than 90 degrees and then push up through to straighten them (well you have to with my little legs anyway). !! Not many races I have done before have that same sort of climb involved, even Borrowdale !!:confused:

i made it round but had really dissapointing run and finish time 4.44, really struggled with the heat and found it hard to eat anything, which i imagined wont off helped. never suffered with cramp as such but did coming off whernside all the way back. drank plenty of water and filled up at a couple of streams (maybe it was the cloudy water, knew I shouldnt have drank it)

luckily someone was handing out jelly babies at top iof ingleborough, which helped a bit

Not yet but they'll be here when they are.

I didn't find it hot at all yesterday although my shoulders are a bit sunburnt. I set off at a reasonable pace and was ok as far as Whernside but then my legs fell off on the descent and I started cramping up when I hit the road at the bottom. I got to the Hill Inn in about 2:50, had some food and drink and walked/jogged for about another half a mile but the cramp was getting worse so I turned back. Then I met Brett and FITC so had another brief attempt to get going with them but I'd had it so jumped in the broom wagon. I've done Ingleborough with cramp before and there's no way I'm going to go through that again thank you very much :eek:.
