Re: Tonight's football thread
Fergie is losing the plot. That's what happens when you start with a bunch of lightweights and geriatrics. He must be the only person in the world who thought that was the team for us to send out this evening.
Two blatant penalties denied, woodwork hit twice, van persie missing chances that jones would have scored... all a lovely smokescreen for the old codger.

Re: Tonight's football thread
We conceded 3 at home..
Horrid to see United fans turn on Fergie like this.. nothing new they did it in 2001 when we struggled and he showed he's still the boss.. he could get us relegated and I'd still back him..
A guy I knew stated we'd never win the league under Ferguson again after we lost to West Ham at home back then... yet a few years later he's jumping up and down celebrating titles and a european cup...
Without even mentioning the toys out of the pram incidents of 95? when Fergie got rid of Ince, Kanche, Hughes..

I love it Iain.
I wonder how many press conferences he'll storm out of this season when people ask him to justify why your season has fallen apart before new years day?

Re: Tonight's football thread
Its hardly anything too drastic... 4 years and its still tick tock.. you spend £100's of millions to beat us on goal difference.. I think people need a bit of caution.. we've been down before.. its September..
Aye.. change of heart.. just seen we are 4th.. 6 points from 12 games.. ahead of City.. 4 points of the title with 96 points to play for... its all over.. Fergie walk away..

Worryingly, it seems you are right. It looks like GFH or its parent company is attempting to buy us. Talk of a Man U style buy out, where the debt for the purchase is somehow added to the clubs debt!! Not sure thats what we want!?

We definitely don't want that.
This article from the YEP confirms my suspicion of a few days ago that GFH are not in a strong financial position.

Well done Darren Bent at Villa today getting the equaliser. Class striker who should have started the game.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Tonight's football....or maybe not?!
"We knew there would be heavy rain but we could not 100% predict the downpour. We will have a pitch inspection to decide whether we postpone the game by an hour, to tomorrow or to whenever. At the moment it is not possible to close the roof because of the heavy rain and the wind. It might be possible.
"There is no need for people to be our working on the pitch. We have a heating system which, if we close the roof, can dry the pitch in 30 minutes. I know this situation is not very nice, but please wait until the inspection."

Can't believe John won. My money was on Brendan all the way - until he messed up his fondant fancies. And as for James with his 5 chiffon (Anyone had a chiffon cake before ?) cakes - what was he thinking ?

Just read elsewhere that he's already banned from every football ground in the country....

The guys moaning he's been grassed up.... for something he did live in TV....
But it wasn't just one, another fan entered the pitch and numerous seats turned up... obviously its not all fans but I think there will be action against leeds and the fan himself...
but its symptomatic of a wider issue now, hooliganism is creeping back, so is racism. FIFA's response to Serbia has been disgusting, until we see strong actions it will get worse.
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
Apparently this idiot is the subject of a banning order so he shouldn't even have been in the ground.

Your right Iain, same with the big clubs singing about the dead from the past. Football grounds are returning to their shame full past.
It needs to be stamped out and not with fines, points need to be docked. There is too much money in the game.
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
Depressing incident all round. Personally I'd be 'happy' to see Leeds docked three points. Then ever after the bench mark is set. Any club causing any trouble at grounds...points docked. Both teams offend, both teams docked. Trouble makers caught...heavy fine and jail (...I know fines are often not paid, or paid at two bob a month so if the can't pay jail them!). I'm totally sick of my clubs name being dragged thro' the clart by mindless morons and thugs. It is a minority to a degree, but it wasn't a minority singing the Savile song or abusing Dave Jones, who always seems a genuinely decent bloke to me! Its not the worst I've seen, and it happened to us at Carlisle but it just needs stamping on.
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
Coppers cant catch him even though they have a photo, name and address.
But they still manaer to taser blind gent in Chorley with a white stick!!!

Yes I follow Leeds but what could they do? He could have been from any club. He's banned from all clubs. Why did Wednesday let him in?
He got a ticket so what, you can pick up a ticket most weeks.
I agree any trouble should be stamped on full stop. I liked Chris Evans Idea of banning football for a year, No pay for the racist thugs on the field and no one for the thugs to watch. It might make them realise just how good they've got it. Rant over.

It was like a return to the bad old days on Friday for our club and it reminded me how I used to feel in the 80's when Leeds fans were regularly involved in trouble. Deep shame and embarrassment.
I think the issue of offensive chanting needs to be tackled. It's been happening for donkeys years but because it's not racist chanting it's been allowed to carry on pretty much unchecked. I used to cringe with embarrassment when so called Leeds fans sang the "Munich" song. I could understand why Dave Jones was so upset in his post match interview with the chants aimed at him, but as he said himself he has had to take it for 12 years, so the issue is much wider than Leeds. I also hope that in retrospect he is also able to reflect that the taunting by Sheffield Wednesday supporters about the two fans murdered in Turkey was every bit as vile.
If points deductions are what it takes to stamp this sort of thing out then so bit it but it needs to be applied consistently. You mentioned the incident at Carlisle a few years ago when their fans invaded the pitch at the end and attacked Leeds players. Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember Carlisle escaping without punishment.

Leeds United operate a membership scheme, which you have to join in order to apply for away tickets. Since his banning order would automatically preclude this moron from membership, I can only assume that one of his half-witted mates got him a ticket.
Another thing that disappointed me was the apparent readiness of the fans to let him back into the stand after he assaulted Kirkland. I suppose I'm living in cloud cuckoo land to imagine that they could have frog-marched him back out again to the police.

Re: Tonight's football thread
He was given a 16-week jail sentence and a five-year football banning order.
The court heard Cawley had been drinking heavily and had already breached two previous banning orders.
Taken from BBC website.
Two questions jump out
1 whats the point of a banning order when the numpty has just broken 2 previous orders?
2 why was a big local derby played friday night and not saturday lunch time?
Make me sick to be a leeds fan with thugs like that following the club.
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
It amazes me that the sentence was so lenient for an unprovoked assault on someone. He gets 16 weeks, yet the person who disrupted the boat race was sent down for 6 months for merely causing a public nuisance.
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
What was bad, was he walked off and hid in the Leeds fans... he should have been pushed out back on to the pitch...

Agreed. When I heard about it I couldn't believe he'd managed to get on the pitch, attack a player and get back in the crowd and subsequently out of the ground without being caught. Obviously it's disgraceful that stewards and police should have to deal with this kind of nonsense, but it seems pretty poor to me that he wasn't stopped.
