We have the same debate with the PPP. I think what some stats show are bottom of climb to top. Often climbs have a little downhill in them though and perhaps some of the minor undulations across Maiden Moor don't show in the official stats.
Also it depends on line.
I have 11.8 and 3800ft in my schedule anyway and that will do for me.
Well I have 11.6m (probably fairly accurate) and 5128ft!! In reality I expect it's somewhere between 3500-4000. Either way it's enough, and it probably depends on the precise route you take. The only accurate way to measure it would be to use an altimeter watch and take an average reading over the main route choices. It doesn't matter a great deal though really does it?

If I had to choose - arty. It was harder than last time thats for sure. Need to be fitter for next year though. I would imagine my face would have been redder than my vest.

I'm in again.
Does anyone have a GPX file or advice for "the quick" way off Dale Head. Last year I tried a wide swing out to the Honister side and although the initial descent was good and runnable, I soon ended up picking my way through rocks and boulders and wasted loads of time. I'm sure the path would have been quicker!
The site took my money so I guess I'm in.

Tussock you collect your number on the day.... that way we stand a chance of knowing who's on the hills.... and we've been known to get that out.... due to someone collecting their number then not running and forgetting to let us know.
It is a very fast run all the way down. Suspect you did not go far enough, or started turning north east too soon if you tangled with rocks.Quote:

In simple terms:follow the LHS of the Honister path for around 300m-350m at which point you see the path ahead start turning away to the right.At that point start swinging to the left, until descending roughly due East. Only in the lower part of the descent do you start swinging back north east for Dalehead tarn, and that brings you down onto the trod which comes in over the col from Honister. Follow it. Cross the stream right, before the tarn for the path to High Spy.
Get it right and it is all good running on grass although steep in parts.. A few rocks here and there, but nothing that cannot be dodged.
Take a look from the bottom, and you can see the how far left you need to go to avoid the rough stuff - and also that if you turn down too soon it is nasty (as I suspect you discovered the hard way!!)
Many thanks for that. Sounds like I turned down too soon and my mountain goat years are long gone! It seemed wrong at the time and the alarm bells start ringing as you are heading away from High Spy and those who have taken the path.
