Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
I fancy a run in the dark - see you there (as much as that's possible at night on the fells around Heptonstall!) :D
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Looking forward to this, never managed to get there last year but did it in 2011, great event. Just wish I could get there to do a recce with you guys but its looking unlikely.

Bring some beer money Joey - 43 signed up so far - there's a folk session and food planned too - feels wrong to be having so much fun on a school night

Glad you are running Heptonstall this year Fozzy - lets hope its a warm sunny, spring day like last year (looking outside its hard to believe!)
Looks like March 3rd is now definite for the next big recce just in case you might still make it; sounds like you know the route, but the recces are always good fun either way.
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Two of us coming down from the north east for this. Hoping to get down for a recce in the next few weeks.

Pleased to hear Heptonstall is in your diary Oven Gloves. (hope you can fill your remaining car seats with more mates!)
If you're planning a recce then we have just updated our route description for 2013.

The 2012 PDF OS map is still pretty good - definitely download and print the PDF map.
The google earth map is not so good. Ignore the Heptonstall Moor (Hot Stones Hill to Standing Stone Hill) section on the google earth map; use the direct route across the moor as shown on PDF OS map. I recommend that you have a good read of the written route for this stage - its a nightmare - but there is a way across.
We are planning a big group recce for March 3rd (9am) Are you based in Northumberland? Would mean a very early start!
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Thanks for the info Trig. The route description is very detailed so I hopefully won't get lost on the recce! The bit from Hot Stones Hill sounds interesting and definitely needs checking out. Also, I may have a third person interested in coming for the race itself.
I can't make your recce on March 3rd as it's my eldest daughters 21st so no chance of a day pass.

Don't worry too much about the recce - I doubt you will get lost if you are somewhere in the middle of the pack - in the meantime here is photo of the village in case your mate needs any further persuasion :D

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Thinking of entering this but worried about the nav element. I can read a map a bit and in the two fells I've done I was mid-pack, sadly the only local knowledge I have are the pubs and Plath's grave. Can't make the recce either. Allay my fears or call me an amateur who needs to come back when he's able to stare reality in the face.
