the majority of dogs will sense when you are scared of them, the majority of dogs won't bother you, Lefty's idea is proberbly the best i have read on this thread, also using commen sense is a good idea.

Yes. But, dogs wearing head torches.
I've always found that if you shout loudly with some swear words that most dogs back off.
I'll be in Swedish Lapland in a couple of weeks. Lots of lovely wilderness to run about in. Trouble is, that wilderness is populated by bears. What are you not supposed to do if you see a bear? Run, that's what.
I'll be ok if I'm near the top of a hill because...apparently.....bears can't descend for toffee.
As for dogs, I avoid Ogden these days.
