Indeed, each to their own! I am the opposite, I really like being on the drops, on all my bikes that have them... :)

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
...one of the big advantages of cross top levers in the PPP or more extreme cx riding is the ability to drop off the back of the saddle and lower the centre of gravity over the back wheel, on a steep and /or rocky descent, whilst still allowing braking potential and takes the 'weight' ( and so puncture potential ) off the front wheel and allows a bit of floating of the bike

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
Just done the Keighley Big Mountain Bike Ride - 31 miles offroad and tarmac - 2.15 hrs. Felt tired from Yorkshireman most of way round.
Tried to avoid some cobbles on a moor and dropped the wheel into what I thought was a sheep trod to get round them. Appear to have pulled something in my calf during the subsequent trip over the handle bars - Bugger.
Off to Asda to buy some peas.

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
quite glad I've avoided any off road riding as yet....which, let's face it, is cheating;)
2 weeks ago managed 42/600 at Helvellyn Triathlon with 26th fastest bike split ( on my cx bike....so much for aero tri bikes and Lakeland Passes :D )
56.05 for 25TT last w/end...not on the cx bike unfortunately !
just back from 23 miles off road run
no idea how i'll race next w/end though....very excited to be doing the event :)

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
I am sh*tting myself for next week...
So few women doing it as well... only 20odd out of 600 odd, which must mean something???
Anyways, apart from feeling apprehensive, at least I am not injured.... No idea of I am ready for it. I don't feel ready... My running is completely inadequate, I only started off road riding a few weeks ago and I am too weak to carry the bike for any length of time... Carrying the bike has also given me aches and pains in parts of my back I did not know existed...:(

Is that from your expertise in spectating, racing, or because I will have a nice bed to sleep in the night before the race? ;)

Certainly not racing! PPP is hard enough without carting a pushbike round with you
Seriously, it sounds like you done some quality training

You will be fine and no doubt give me a total stuffing. The lack of women means you have an excellent chance of getting a prize.
On a separate note has anybody had any form of notification or card to hand in next week? I have had nothing as yet.

I assume this works like any other bike race? A start list is either e-mailed, mailed or otherwise made public (as in on the 3ppp website). You present yourself at race HQ in time for race prep, sign on on the signing on sheet, scibble down your licence number, hand over your licence and get your number(s) and start your race prep?

Must get a nice photo for my race license, have not set it up yet.
-
Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
It's just a standard sign-in as far as I remember... but my memory could have been jaded by the pain and suffering (only joking H!!). All I'd say is get there early or you'll end up having to park miles way. Really gutted now I'm not doing it this year. Enjoy the champagne sound of over-inflated Landcruisers popping at the start!

I've got both :D
You paid for a day licence Ady, so you don't need to hand in your licence. Those of us who are BC members however do... :)

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
I will be using the 12 litre rucksack with bladder I use for long fell races/runs... It works with shouldering the bike, I have tried it...
-
Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
12 Litres???????????? How many circuits are you doing

It means you're heading for a Top 20 surely?
I'm crapping myself too. I think I'm past the 'you're going to crash and burn and be eliminated' stage, but still...
Furthest I've been on a bike lately is a lot less. I'd be alright with the climbing ...if it was on the road. I hope a bit of running counts for *something*.
What are folk doing for drink? Bottle plus fill-ups/stash extra bottles part-way/camelbak?
Some waffle on the blog in the sig below.

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
What are you lot doing for spares?
I was offered a spare bike by a mate, but logistics make it rather hard to get it to me before I leave for the North...?
-
Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
I can't wait. I'm buzzin' and well up for it, my main worry is that somthing will break (on the bike or me). Might ride up and back home to make a day of it.

LOL, two litre bladder, 12 litre rucksack... It needs to have that huge big orange heavy bivvybag in it, as I am not allowed to use my far superior and much smaller and lighter one :S

I am worried about breakages as well... Mind you, a mechanical is a good excuse for a crap performance
Yeah, I was last, but my fork broke off the frame in the first 10 miles of the race and I had no spare, so I ran it all, carrying my broken bike:cool:
