With the Daily Mail apparently going to war with Ed Miliband
Lord Rothermere, the Daily Mail's founder and another bloke

The notoriously irascible and famously debauched New Yorker was the former frontman of the avant-garde Sixties band The Velvet Underground....he once reduced the Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle to tears in 2010 after he refused to let her perform Perfect Day on the America’s Got Talent TV show
I know it's not surprising the Daily Heil would write something like that about Reed, but it's still horrible.
Lou Reed and Nico and the Velvet Underground injected sanity into my life in Timperley. In response to earlier comments in this thread I am pleased to see that Stewart Lee, who has recently injected sanity into my life in Leeds, notes the following in his book "How I escaped my certain fate etc": "When TVs Russell Howard cites, in an interview, Bob Dylan's mantra "every great artist needs to be in a permanent state of becoming" as an influence, one wonders what relationship this phrase has with appearing on Mock the week and making fun of Susan Boyle for having a hairy face?"
Nowt wrong with Timperley mate!

Just for good measure here's her input to feminism.
Great post from Tom on FB. Doubt if Daily mail will print this but 20 minutes well spent

"When I first moved to the UK, I thought I understood why people hated the Daily Mail: it's a shitty, sensationalist tabloid, right? What I failed to understand, in my naive, transatlantic way, was just how shitty a tabloid the Fail is. Here, then, is Martin Robbins doing a 20-minute presentation at The Pod Delusion's third birthday bash, explaining in excruciating (and funny) detail why the Mail is an atrocious, vile fester of stinking shit, and why the people who publish it are scum."
The description had me..
Amusing piece in today's Mail by regular columnist, Tom Utley:

Not the Daily Mail but the Daily Express which is near enough. Here is John Cooper Clarkes You Never See A Nipple In The Daily Express.
I’ve seen the poison letters of the horrible hacks
About the yellow peril and the reds and the blacks
And the TUC and its treacherous acts
Kremlin money – All right Jack
I’ve seen how democracy is under duress
But I’ve never seen a nipple in the Daily Express
I’ve seen the suede jack boot the verbal cosh
Whitehouse Whitelaw whitewash
Blood uptown where the vandals rule
Classroom mafia scandal school
They accuse – I confess
I’ve never seen a nipple in the Daily Express
Angry columns scream in pain
Love in vain domestic strain
Divorce disease it eats away
The family structure day by day
In the grim pursuit of happiness
I’ve never seen a nipple in the Daily Express
This paper’s boring mindless mean
Full of pornography the kind that’s clean
Where William Hickey meets Michael Caine
Again and again and again and again
I’ve seen millionaires on the DHSS
But I’ve never seen a nipple in the Daily Express
Just an aside but anyone noticed the 1982 image of The Royal Marine's Surrendering on the Falkland Islands? What's the story of the guy stood behind the first Royal Marine with his hands on his head like the marines, appears to be wearing cammo face paint - but dressed in what appears to be a Barbour jacket (or Camel Thomson Tartan - I refuse to call if Burberry because Camel Thomson was invented before Burberry appropriated it! - lined Jacket), a shirt, moleskin coat and possibly a black blazer or fleece? Have seen a few images of Royal Marines post task force wearing variously civilian waterproofs or captured Argentinian Parkers over the smocks, but this guy looks a bit unusually dressed. Though he does have the obligatory Handlebar Moustache...
