I suffered badly, totally misjudged the amount of water I'd put in me bladder and ran out on pap2. The race as such ended for me between pap2 and 3 when I developed terrible cramp and it became just a battle for survival. 1st time for me also and I hope to be back again next year. Fantastic race that feels like a proper event. The scree decents were incredible and the views unbelievable. Staying in Scotland for the week and just had 2 good days Munro bagging, hopefully 3 more good bagging days to be had. Then the small matter of ennerdale on Saturday....if the legs allow it.
Are there any routes off Beinn Shiantaidh that are not rough?
Also my 1st time and harf way up the 3rd pap i told a couple of walkers on the way down it would be my last! ive already changed my mind on that one!
the heat did me (25 deg), started to feel it going up 2nd pap by the 3rd and cp7 every 2nd step my legs were cramping up, not helped by the fact i had to stop twice to empty my shoes from scree, but they eased on the deccent down to the bridge where the wife was waiting for a f1 stylie pit stop shoe change and managed to run all the never ending road.
so ill be back as ive got a time i know i can beat! + its a good excuse for a holiday.

My first Jura, but I'll definitely be back. Just took it really steady as it was my first long race since 2009. Seemed to spend most of my time taking photos, the views were so good!

Not sure about being nice but I'm certainly not attentive. According to the entrants list there were no Staffs Moorlands runners, but I passed my spare compass to a bloke just outside Jura stores on the Thursday, who was on his way to pitch at Corran sands. I have had offers of compass returns already but not mine though.Quote:

Just arrived back from a glorious week in Scotland!! Jura race was my first time also!! Half way up the first 'pap' I thought I was gonna dnf, but I kept telling myself that my training would pay of, and it sort of did!! Those climbs are long and steep and rough!! Cramped a bit on last climb after getting all clever and starting to pass people!! But it was a great experience over all. Did the usual at the end, told our lass I definately would never ever bother doing it again, then the idea that I enjoyed it popped into my head from knowhere. I might well be back! After that we went and did a wee canoe in the bay and headed north, did the pap of glencoe, had another paddle, and up to see friends on the northern tip of the top (Strathy Point).
Cheers organisers, marshals etc etc...more medium t-shirts next time tho' ta!! :)
Judy Bewell from Wetherby Runners took the photos from Check point 7 on Cora Bheinn. The lads and lasses from Wetherby had a ball sailing in on a rib boat. Looks amazin' up there!
Any pics anywhere apart from the Wetherby ones? I remember there being a photographer on course.....

I was wondering the same. Not sure, but I think the guy who was taking shots as I came down somewhere (2nd Pap?) may have been the guy who took the pics for the Jura Distillery site.

Thought I would post this as I couldn't find the info online.
I am driving North on Friday evening for the Jura Race this year. I couldn't figure out how to get from the mainland to the race in time on saturday morning, because by the look of this the first boat is 10am Saturday morning.

I emailed Nicol who runs the ferry and he said that there was an early boat at 8am on Saturday morning for the race which will get there on time.
If anyone wants a lift from NE england (DL13) to the race leaving friday evening, coming back whenever, get in touch.
Also - any tips about what to take, route choice, other admin is much appreciated - first scottish race this one.

You might just want to check with Nicol that he has space. A group of us from Pennine have booked at least 10 places on that 8am boat - and I'm sure last year it only took about 12 people. (Unless he's got a bigger boat).Quote:

Sandy, Venture West, is usually there taking people over as well. I've booked with Nicol but have sometimes ended up going on Sandy's boat, they sort it all out.
Interesting information - anything to do with travelling via the Jura Passenger Ferry, Nicol's outfit. I'll put a section up on the race website with any useful or important information I can gather. There are other issues which need to be advertised as well as the timing of the ferries. Give me a few days, and any feedback, further info or feedback always welcome.
