I'll be there, & probably running, not on the bike
(not sure if anyone's been brave enough to form an 'away-team' yet??)
i'm hoping to be there too. really enjoyed my first experience last year.
fingers crossed my knee holds out!
I'll be doing the boring but fast Abbey dash on Sunday so won't be there. Eventually I'll make it but this year I want a fast 10k time....
Quite a lot of our members are at the 'Abbey' too, as it's part of our 'Grand Prix' series.
I'm down at the 'Barnsley 10K' on Sunday, but not sure if I'll be struggling around it, or flying, due to the 'H v C'
(the 'Barnsley' course has got quite a sharp hill roughly a mile from the start)
Never got round to doing this race - I have a cross bike and I have fell shoes - I just need to make an effort on the fitness to qualify! Pics online.

Well hacked off this afternoon!
A reasonable start, then whilst climbing up through the boulders/woodland onto the top of Shipley Glen, I collected a branch in the face.
No-ones fault, just one of those things, but I lost a contacnt lens, felt like i'd been smacked in the eye, so called it "quits" there & then.
Driving back to Wakefield, via Bradford was .... interesting:confused:
So, after an hastily (ie; pleading request!!) appointment to try & get more lenses, it appears that I have scratched the Cornea, so have to let my Eye 'rest' for a week.
Bugger!!!!!
SO, no 'Barnsley 10K' tomorrow now
Tough break there Richard, hope it's not too bad.
Thoroughly enjoyed the race myself, thanks to all the organisers and marshalls. Weather was as good as I can remember in mid Nov, the last two weekends running I've been overheating, sweating buckets, and squinting into bright sunshine.
At 6 miles 650 ft it looks not too bad on paper, but there's not much opportunity to take things easy, I was pretty spent by the end.
bad news richard. i think I saw you go past me just after the concrete sleepers. sounds tough, hope it's nothing too serious.
really enjoyed it again. the course is really good. i enjoy getting up close and personal with all that lycra and spinning metal :p my first race back after 6 months and everything seems to be ship shape so one happy camper here.
Yes it was surprisngly dry & certainly favoured the cyclists on what bit I saw of it:sneaky:
Although, it was a bit chilly before the race, I was going to just wear a vest, but ended up putting a short-sleeve t-shirt under it (glad I did for the walk back to the car....)
Thanks, it's definately going to be a long week, as I have no spare lenses, & my glasses are an old pair with an ('out of date') prescription
Agreed, it's harder than it ought to be, given the statistica
Glad you enjoyed it!
Were you running, or riding? (I ran again this year)
The Eye's staring to get a bit itchy now, as if there's an eyelash in it constantly
Just a few pics here

and there was me thinking that Rule 9, section P paragraph 12 subclause C clearly stated that "safety glasses/googles must be worn (not carried) if woods/low hanging branches have been identified as a potential hazard"
Quite a few mtb's in attendance I saw. Fair play to the guy near the front on mtb too.
Well folks it's that time of year again... bring on the madness that it Harriers V Cyclists
This year races date has changed to the 10th November so make sure you change your diaries. As usual there will be drink and pies available after the race.
More info can be found here
Diary entry 'done & indeed dusted' & day-pass arranged:thumbup:
Hoping to bring an away-team this year, as there's a few members (still not many though) who fell-race.
After last years 'DNF', due to the unwanted Cornea & tree-branch interface, I've got a score to settle with the race this year
Sounds good Richard, bring as many as you like :D
I heard somebody at the Withins race this weekend describe the HvC race as "...I think they must ride different courses..." so for all you HvC virgins out there, both runners and riders compete over the same course, makes it all that much more interesting!
Sorry, but I'm quite hacked off at the moment, as SWMBO has told me this evening of a family related happening on the same day that I'm expected to attend that will probably last less than 5 minutes for our part:angry:
And..... as is to be expected, it's not even hours later (or before the race), it's during the time I'd be out there
Almost a bloody year waiting for a return to this course, after last years DNF, & wanting to get a damned good time.
Bugger, blast & buggeration!!!!!!
Richard, what a shame. There is always next year!
A couple of things to note to all those that are doing the Harriers V Cyclists.
The local council have seen fit to paint double yellows on a few spots above and below the Fisherman's pub, if possible please car share otherwise it's a slightly longer walk to registration.
Secondly, after putting the registration angels through the mill over the last few years, we are having registration in the Fisherman's pub this year rather than on the canal bank.
See you all on the 10th:)

Enjoyed it immensely, & very happy to get back after a DNF in '11, & not getting there in '12.
Was a bit slower than wanted, or expected (shouldn't have done Pontefract ParkRun in the morning & saved the energy!!)
'Wheezing Donkey'!!!!
Apologies for briefness of chat to you
Whoops wrong website, please forgive this is the proper one http://woodentops.org.uk/
Richard, no worries. I had to press on and get up to the moor to give my club mate a shout. I think that I'll be back for this one another year - hopefully get fit enough to participate - it seems a cracking event; I'll spread the word within Bowland F.R.
Ian Roberts.
