Yes there will be energy bars. Maybe not the best ones. But small museli and chocolate bars. You can take what you want with you. They have a huge array of food. Cheese, crackers, slices of sausage, fruit, cake, dark chocolate etc..

Yeah, they do make it sound like aLll food has to be consumed at the CP. but thats not the case
I was stopping for a few minutes, eating what I could manage and then taking the rest. At some stops I grabbed a load of fresh fruit and put in in a plastic bag clipped to my chest strap and ate it as I walked the next hill.
I was trying to have a bowl of soup at every point because of the salt as well, reckon that helped as had no cramp.
I've 3 short videos here covering last years event including a short interview with Krissy Moehl who won the ladies event. May be of interest. Certainly a very inspiring atmosphere - problem is how to convert from an elite endurance cyclist to an Ultra runner!
I'm almost certain Krissy isn't running this years.

From what i can see if she belongs to the USA team i can't find her name in the registry ... too bad i'd like to meet her :)

So when are people travelling over to Chamonix?
Be good to meet up and have a beer or two.
I will be in Chamonix by Tuesday evening, am staying in the middle of town and am planning to have some dinner and a couple of beers, then watch the start of the PTL at 22.00.
I will be in Camonix Friday, Saturday and Sunday to spectate this year. It should make a good spectacle with Karl Meltzer, Killian Jornet, Geoff Roes, Scott Jurek and our own Jez Bragg not to mention some other good runners from the rest of Europe and Japan. I predict a much closer men’s race this year.
I am spending a couple of days in Morzine and Les Gets mountain biking first (any advice on XC riding, ski lifts etc, would be appreciated) then moving on to Chamonix to spectate / have a run up and around Brevent.
Would like to meet up with any of you competitors / spectators where and when do you suggest Morgan. But could only meet on Friday afternoon so not much use to most I would say. I will be looking out for the union jacks on the numbers and cheering you on from the trail edge anyway.
Good luck to all.;)
Don't think Meltzer's in great shape; he pulled out of Hardrock (but maybe saving himself for UTMB?) Not sure Jurek is in peak form either. Is Jez in good nick?
On current form Roes is the man, but Kilian will have home advantage
Should be a great watch, if you have a helicopter!
I'm starting Friday 10.00 am in Courmayeur, but would be great to have a shout out on the course Alan.
Don't forget Kenichi who was 8th last year on his first attempt. He's back and hungry.
It is more ascent than Roes has done, but I agree he should be close to Killian. If Jez is in good shape he will be right up there, didnt know abour Karl quitting on the Hardrock 100, but anyone that has won that in just over 24 hours has to have a shout. It should be a good one.
Morgan, what time do you think you be at La Flagere at? I may make an ascent early on Saturday and then carry on, on a long run and go back to La Flagere for the leaders of UTMB.
It's an early start for me then. I will be run up to La flagere then, probably go on to Brevent and maybe (time / weather) onto Aguille de la Floria, then back to Flagere for the leaders of the TMB. I will keep my eye out for you Morgan. Good luck with it.
1) Are idetification papers obligatory ?
2)Is an ID card enough or do i need a passport once we pass into Switzerland while running the UTMB ?
Thankyou
Kilian doing a spot of training - running down Mt Blanc ( he does it several times in the build up to the UTMB) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l17bfkiWPY
Geoff Roes pens his thoughts before the UTMB:

And Jez Bragg does similar:

Gripping coverage already - looks like 'Flippers Gang' have just gone into the lead in the PTL! :)
Will i be able to leave the computer for the weekend? Wish i was out there!!
Oh no, still 2nd...
Various pre race interviews - http://www.irunfar.com/2010/08/nicol...interview.html
Wish I was there too Britta. Did you not get through the ballot or did you just not enter.
I won't be going next year either as they've moved the goal posts now. You need 5 points from just 2 races. e.g Fellsman (3) and Lakeland 50 (2) or Lakeland 100 (4) and another shorter qualifier. I've only done short stuff (up to 50m) if you can call it that.
I thought the PTL was a non competitive challenge although I'm sure some of the participants think otherwise.
UTMB just started. Come on Jez!!
Grim weather but great atmosphere by all accounts - http://yfrog.com/3tgprj
UTMB cancelled / postponed due to a mudslide. You heard it from Mor Pheen first!
Above all I'm disappointed for Lizzy Hawker, who was 10th OVERALL before the race was stopped!
ha ha but I posted it hear first :) Must be same post as on iRunfar twitter!
Mudslide across trail at Col de Seigne blocks course.
Yeah terrible news. Gutted for those running this year. Guess there entries could be guarenteed for next year?
Nightmare. Awful position for the RO's, but if very understandable, if one area has gone they'll just want people off the hills ASAP. Hard one for the runners going, you invest a lot in this race, not just in the finances getting and staying there, but also in just being fit for it.
No doubt it will add to the legendary status of the event - indeed it could end up like the Lakes OMM ...... more people claimed to be there than were!
Have just got back to our digs in Chamonix having run as far as Contamines before being told of an avalanche at col de la Seigne. This comes after a change of route for one of the others races due to a glacier reservoir risk. What an event though, what we saw of it. It's all unfinished business now!
Same here. Back in Chamonix after getting stopped at St.Gervais (21 kms). My 2 friends were on their way to Les Contamines before finding out. The weather was awful with torrential rain during the morning and it resumed as soon as the race started. We were told of avalanches and landslips on the Italian side which made the route impassible. So a difficult decision for the organisers.
But conspiracy theories abound. I was sat next to a Spaniard on the coachback to Chamonix who said he had been speaking to 2 Italians, and that they had been phoned by their parenst earlier in the day that the landslip had occurred some hours before the race started, and that the organisers must have known about this, but decided to start the event knowing that they would have to abandon it.

Sounds like the organisers are trying to rejig things and start the CCC at 10am.
Not too sure what is going on. Got a text from the event organisers at 0230 saying buses out of Cham to Courmayeur for CCC, ie. for the UTMB/TDS folk. Bear in mind the TDS start was also delayed due to weather. Then got another text at 0430 saying spaces to Courmayeur limited to 1000 runners.
Certainly seems like UTMB runners are doing a new CCC - http://www.irunfar.com/2010/08/utmb-...-in-place.html
