i was down by Henley last week end and saw two pairs of Red Kites
A good bird of prey trilogy on our jaunt round the NW fells today. A few buzzards, a couple of kestrels and a cracking view of a peregrine screaming overhead on our way up Grisdale Pike.
We saw a barn owl this (early) morning between Pike low and Margary Hill. Also found a Skull and skeleton of a bird of prey! There was an broken egg near by but couldn't find any evidence of a trap etc.
Info will be passed on to the relevant authority just incase. I've got the skull if any one wants a pic to try and identify it?
We were about 2 miles from the place I found the untended traps!!
Ian
Two mice (named Wilfred and Primrose by my daughter) who visited us each evening while camping in the lakes. They especially liked doritos and grapes and, come the end of the week, would scuttle out and take them from our hands :)
i saw a mouse drinking beer!
Where?
There on the stair?:D
clip clipperty clop? :D
Short-eared owl yesterday evening near the Shooting Cabin below Harry Hut trig, which flew out from the heather just a few feet away.
FOUR Foxes tonight on the estate - and I have a witness!! (Nat Muir's No. 1 fan!!)
A very large black beetle crawling about the living room floor, Missus made me throw it out into the rain :(.
We have a wildlife garden, we now seem to have a wildlife house
Well, it is when you're at home!:D
I'm going for top trumps here.... Wolf... swear to God.
I'm in Canada, provence of Quebec seeing my family. I ran on a trail in the forest near our home and on the way back!!!! I saw him, but he didn't see me. I was down wind of him so he did'nt smell me either. He was however, blocking my trail... I was terrified!! I knew there would probably be more than one (wolfs & packs etc). I stood rigid for a few moments evaluating my options... 1. Fend him off with a stick (possible if his mates don't arrive), 2. Out run him (Yeah right). 3. Back off slowley and add a God knows how long detour off trail, and get eaten alive by mozzys etc.
Back home now... anti hystamine anyone?
I've just ran near something that looked like a Black Fox, we got close before it ran off.
Is there such a thing? If not then what could it be?
i recently saw vroger vrabbit, it's amazing what the word free does these days;)
couple a swans 3 herons and numerous ducks when running down the canal in my nooo town of nantwich. :D
Lizard - sunbathing on the stile I was climbing over just next to the A54 near Macclesfield. I'm not sure what sort, it was sort of greeny-browny and had some patterns on it??
We also saw a Common Lizard on Sunday near the Swamp, Bleaklow. Also saw a squirrel on the top of Kinder - strange place for a squirrel to be?
I've seen squirrels on Kinder before, but usually earlier in the year. I presume they were feeding on the eggs of ground-nesting birds.
Last night I was sat in the living room when a bat suddenly appeared! (No, not a cricket bat - one of those flying mouse type things). It wouldn't settle anywhere, so I couldn't pick it up. Eventually, I managed to usher it through to the kitchen & out of the back door. It wasn't keen to go outside, though - must've been the rain.
You ushered it out of the back door, Geoff? Nice one:D!
Deer. Near Marrick in North Yorks earlier in the week. There were 3 deer one day, and one deer the next (on the same run). They weren't very big, so maybe Roe deer.
Saw what must have been 300+ lapwings flocking over Morrisons in Hyde. Talking to a couple of Glossopdale Harriers in Up and Running who had seen deer on Hobson Moor above Hadfield.
Short-eared Owl on Lingmoor last night during a brief window of decent weather.
3 Dolphins, 1 Lion fish, driftwood and 2 abandoned lifeboats (and that was coming off Hameldon hill)
Whilst out running on Pex Hill tonight came across a lovely Barn Owl sat on a fence post about 8ft from me then it flew off over the fields. Superb.
Short-eared owl on Birchenough hill, near Buxton, at 6 pm tonight. It circled me twice, close enough that I could see it's yellow eyes, then dived on something about 20 feet in front of me before taking off again.
Followed a young or female badger up our track the other night for about 3 minutes. I've seen them locally before but the two kids hadn't seen a badger before.
not quitetodays encounter, but saw a squirrel on ingleborough and not a tree for miles:eek::eek:
Buzzard
swooped in from nowhere right in front of me across my path, and perched on a fence-post
I stopped about 6 feet away from it and we looked at each other for a few seconds before it flapped it's way to perch further away from me down a fence at right angles to the path
this was near Norton Priory near Runcorn btw
looked very like this:
