I've received two Handbooks
Still not arrived Wakefield
The wife doesnt seem to have the same excitement as me with the arrival of the new handbook haha .Pencilling in a few races for next year. I see Guisborough 3 Tops is been ran twice,5th April and then 6th September, the latter been an English Championship race.
Re the Guisborough 3 Tops, yes. Dave Parry is running it twice next year. Once in April for the locals as part of the Winter Series and again in September for the English Champs as the field is limited (to 350 I think).
3 handbooks recieved in post yesterday
also never put the fellrunner down since recieving it on saturday
Thanks for that, I was thinking it might be last in this seasons winter league and then first in next seasons winter league, but your explanation makes more sense. Shame it has to clash with Ben Nevis, I was fancying that next year, think I might go with 3 tops though now.
This years Handbook/Calendar is again, as always, the most welcome item of mail I receive around Christmas. However I do have one gripe. Over the last few years, miles and feet have quietly disappeared from the listings.
Why? I am sure that very many members first choice of measurement is still miles/feet.
I know that on the website under the Events/Races this Month tab most RO's show distances and ascent in imperial and metric.
Can we please have imperial back in the Handbook?
The Calendar was metricised for 2012 so 2019 is the 8th year since the change which was timed to coincide with other bodies eg Scottish Hill Runners Calendar, and so as to be consistent with UKA events eg British Fell Championships.
It was announced in The Fellrunner Autumn 2011 page 12.
Thanks Graham.Time flies!
Well this old codger is well happy with metric measurements so simple compared to imperial ;)
Not sure if it ever was intentional but I am fully metric these days as almost all running events seem to be. Still not sure why when doing a 10k, ROs put out mile markers though. Maybe that's just one of my pet hates.
Cycling however seems to still be stuck in imperial times. I discuss pace, distance, gearing etc with cycling mates and they haven't a clue when I talk in metric. All still happy with inches, feet and miles.
I measure my weekly mileage and ascent in miles and feet. Just have a familiarity with it. And i dutifully record my Fell Race performances in the back of the handbook and use miles/feet (though that's the only thing I use the handbook for.... barely glance at it otherwise, what with the online calendar being so user friendly).
Though it's an easy calculation from metres-feet and km-miles....
I was mulling over whether to convert whilst jogging round Kinder on Friday Evening. At end I'd only ran 5/8 of the distance of my buddy, but I'd nailed him on the climb - around 3 times his piddling amount!
I may wait til Brexit, as I may be forced by some Brussels Bureaucrat to run further with less elevation. They haven't debated that factor in Westminster.
The 2020 WFRA Race Calendar dropped through the letterbox this morning. Available to all for £8 or become a member for £10!
I've been looking for my 2022 FRA fixtures calendar and cannot seem to find it.
Have just thought that perhaps I never had it in the first place.
Have they been sent out yet?
I had mine before Christmas
Mine arrived sometime between xmas and new year.
Thanks all. Now I'm certain I've not received it yet.
I'll give it a week or two and then see if there are any spare ones available.
Was he leading or last?
A great friend of mine once appeared in a Mountain bike magazine double spread on the Three Peaks Cyclocross Race (a race you must do!) coming off the last Peak with nobody in sight behind him
He Told everybody half a dozen people caught him just before the finish line
As if!
That climb from Scarth Gap onto the Buttermere Ridge is one of the grimmest in fell racing.
What a race.
All members should have received their Handbook direct from the printers in December. Membership Secretary Pat McIver on [email protected] will be able to supply one for you.
Mine didn't make it thorough by the beginning of this week and Pat got me a spare in a couple of days.
Yipeee!
My replacement FRA calendar, posted by the Membership Secretary on 14th Jan, has arrived today.
Thanks Pat.
i now have 2 after the original arrived a week after the replacement (which arrived in about 2 days!)
The post around here can be ... esoteric.
