Hi,
I am aiming to do the Pendle Fell race on April 2nd as my come back from knee Arthroscopy. Does anyone know where there is a route description and map?
http://www.racemaps.org.uk/pendleshort.htm 2 maps here.
The Race starts at barley and runs out Via Ogden Res on the gravel road which makes for a flat fast start after about 400m you turn right upto Buttocks farm Via a short steep field which leads onto Pendle its then a tough long gradual/steepish climb for about half a mile, after this you will be turned right down the "Cart track" a fast gradual descent (like a road) about 400m..after this you are faced with a final climb up Pendle right up the "middle" a very steep hands on knees climb through the bracken once over you reach the trig, its back down the gradual descent to buttocks farm and back via the reservoirs.
I'm glad someone asked as I thought it went the same way as the juniors
Can anyone ever remember having to carry a map for this? I don't have an OS of the area and would rather not waste ink printing one off if i'm not going to need it.
Flagged and marshalled I think.
Just watch whether they cut the field coming back to the road or run the path?
CVFR Championship Race for 2011 - Calder Valley have this as one of our 3 short races in Club Championship. any other CVFR forumites going?
The results will be out in a few days time - just in case people start asking.
awww go on - just tell us who won - or even better top three - just for those of us pendle fell running fans that sadly couldnt make it today ;-(
I've heard from a racer that Holmes came 2nd.
Other than that, dunno :)
Very big field, bit sharp at the front as well.Loads in the junior races to,nice testing course for em.
Think I came 161st (and felt a bit disappointed) but then heard around 350 ran, so top half'll do for me! Good to be part of a classic. The A Short Season is upon us.....
Thanks to CLeM for the event organisation, it must have been quite a write-athon.
Memo to self: Might be better not to drink beer and eat chocolate croissants before a race next time, i could have done without running all the way back with a stitch. Got dicked all the way back
Did anyone see Amex? I saw the V8 monster parked up but never saw the man himself, not even in the pub
I have to say great turnout. It really felt like the start of the Fell season.
David Bailey and his team there did a super job. It was a bit overwhelming I think as they got about 3 times as many runners as normal but they plugged away and kept their patience.
For those involved in the Lancs Champs, the individual results are sorted except the lady VETs as they hadn't got that far with the results, so I'll sort that out when I get a full list of results through.
The Junior and Senior Team competition likewise and I'll arrange for the outstanding awards to be with the rightful recipients once the results are out in full.
Thanks for a great race. Certainly was a big turnout, and a class field from looking at the first 7.
Well done all.
Thanks to the organisers, marshals and purveyors of fine lemon cake. Managed to knock 22 minutes off last years time (first race very unfit!) by my watch so I'm very pleased with that! Not sure where i came though the field was massive!!
Really enjoyed my first race. The organizers looked stressed but coped well, many thanks to them.
And I didn't come last!
cracking race loads of excellent runners there thanks to organizer's well done all
Was even good fun watching! Am injured at the moment but me (and Blizzard) were shouting encouragement!
Looked like a huge effort with the organisation well done!
I couldnt believe how many people were there think I ended up parking in Roughlee!
Well done to David etc for organising this one. Over 250 juniors turned up, a record by a huge margin! They ran out of race entry forms at one point but it all came out ok, with only a short delay at the start.
I was marshalling the U16 turnaround point, got some good pics which I'll post when i get time to get them off the phone.
Yes you did! As I was being dragged down the street by Blizz.
Hello! Hope you had a good run!
It was really nice to meet you, i'm Luke. It's always interesting to meet people who are into lesser known aerobic sports, i thought there might be a tale in why you were wearing a bodywarmer with 'Austria 2010' on it and accompanied by a dog like Blizzard. I regret not stroking him now, he looked really soft and fluffy, is he a Husky?
I had a bit of a shocker of a run, i had a pint of beer and chocolate croissants for breakfast and ran most of the race with a stitch. I should have been able to hold my position on the way down but every step was like a punch from Eubank. Look forward to bumping into you and Blizzard again some time :D.
Hi Luke! Yes good to meet you too.
I'll be at many races soon as this injury clears up though you probably won't recognise me without Blizzard!
Not quite a husky but similar "She" is an Alaskan Malamute (People always think she is a boy - typical with a big dog!) same look as a husky but can't have blue eyes and is a stockier build (Although i keep her slimmer than most mallies due too the amount of running i do with her!) Mallies are slower than Huskies to run with but will go for longer distances.
Racing abroad with her was fab in the Europeans but it was way too hot - 20degrees This year the champs are in Poland so i can't go but 2010 they are in the uk! So should be cooler for running!
Choc for breakfast hmmm - yes probably not the best!
