Fairly dry? It were like bl**dy concrete! The course last night was as about as dry as it ever gets - I've only seen it drier after about a 3 month summer drought, about six weeks ago the mud was above your ankles for most of it.
I wonder when Ted passed Gary? Gary had about a ten second lead when he crossed the road on the way down and didn't look like he was going to crack.

Re: lothersdale fell race
Ted passed Gary when they went into the dip on the descent, he says he legs just packed in.

Re: lothersdale fell race
Brett - thanks for another great race. My 3rd in 3 days so took it easy (which means I ran as fast as I could, which was slow!)
-
Re: lothersdale fell race
I was only pulling your leg :)
Anyway you can't beat standing in a swarm of midges for an hour! It was almost a relief when it started raining

Bet he's glad they did pack in.Ted won a jar of pickled eggs!!! Weird.Good luck at Buttermere

Re: lothersdale fell race
You fail to recall the bottle of champagne method chardonnay as well as the jar of pickled eggs.
I got the impression those pickled eggs were what Gary was racing for. Living now in Europe he may really miss our local delicacies of the chip shop.

Re: lothersdale fell race
Aye, cheers to brett and the helpers from KCAC and thanks also to the photographers and the road crossing/summit marshals. Wharfey club champs race in case anyone was wondering! Had a smashing race, everyone was back down at the layby but i had both eyes firmly on the starter and bagged a front row start. Nice little course too, bit of everything thrown in and a really fast finish with route choices.

Agreed !!, not to keen on the new concrete flags they have put to the summit... never been there in the past makes it an even faster race now, suppose it has to be done though for erosion. Another race in the last month where i have never seen it so dry really dusty..

Re: lothersdale fell race
Wharfedale Harriers take first 4 places
1st Jack Smith
2nd James Hall
3rd Ted Mason
4th & 1st Vet Nick Charlesworth

Re: lothersdale fell race

The section from the road to the summit is on the Pennine Way so I suppose it's been done for that. I've not been up on Pinhaw for a while now so hadn't realised that work had been done. It used to be one of my regular runs and the moor section could vary quite quickly from bog to concrete. I'd forgotten about the race :o otherwise I'd have wandered round and helped.
-
Re: lothersdale fell race
Wondered where you'd got to Bob! I went up as far as the road crossing (I was marshaling) so didn't see the summit either. Pinhaw is a favourite run out for Dave C and he hadn't mentioned it either

listen 'ere pillock...
4th & 1st vet Nick Charlesworth...Nick was 44th at the 3Peaks last Saturday...he beat Smithson by over 20 minutes.
The first two runners are both too young to enter the 3Peaks and Ted Mason has raced the peaks in 3.25 a few years ago.
I could name several Wharfedale Harriers that ran this race and also completed the 3Peaks last Saturday.
Get yer facts right before posting anti-social sh!te.

On the other hand Paul you could continue with your ironic, pithy, provocative, satirical and amusing posts which never fail to enliven the Forum.

No need to apologise brett lad...most thanks goes to yourself for another one of your superb, special races.
Perhaps Mr Breeze could expand on that description?;)

[Fume!] We don't want excuses! Where the hell were the results!! :w00t: Only joking Brett...tee hee
That was my best result ever in a race, probably down to being run ragged by our junior section. Hopefully next year antisocial will be fast enough to take part instead of jogging around some footpaths, but there again he is quite old now :p

Re: lothersdale fell race
Brett, I can help out with marshalling if you want.
-
Re: lothersdale fell race
Fantastic - see you there!
-
Re: lothersdale fell race
I fancy hobbling round this on my bad leg (I thought I'd get the excuses set up early...)
But, if you're desparately short of helpers I'll do that instead, or as well, if it suits.
-
Re: lothersdale fell race
Thanks Mick - turn up to run and if desperate we'll divert you to something more onerous :)
-
Re: lothersdale fell race
No probs. See you there, unless you're out on tuesday from Keighley Gate!

Re: lothersdale fell race
Evening all!
Fresh from a road marathon (please don't heckle me), I'm looking to turn to the trails and fells a bit this summer. This race looks like a beauty - is it suitable for a rookie 'fell runner'? Any course info would be greatly appreciated :)

Re: lothersdale fell race
Yes, it's fine for all levels.
it's an out and back route, the steepest bit is the first 300m or so. It's all runnable, depressingly so!
