Perfect timing Wheeze as I seem to have picked up a cough from somewhere.
Have we staff willing to empty it?
Hosehold full of the plague here at Mole Towers, but I'm OK so may drop by for a medicinal brandy later.
Sorry Moley, the lounge was shut over Twixmas. But we open tomorrow for new years eve....hope you are lucky free by then.
Or even lurgy!!
Dose of the covid for Missus and son staying, over Christmas. Missus gave the virus a good kicking and virtually carried on as normal (cooked the Christmas goose which was the important bit)!
I have avoided it, but only a month from my dose so presume immunity.
I promised a few people I'd drop back into the Lounge, but I see it's still pretty quiet round here. Good to recognise a few familiar names, though! Hope everyone is well.
Thanks for dropping in. I've not been back since they started hanging bikes on the wall. It's a pub don't you know!
Not been in lately, since my last post below stating how we had kicked covid into touch, home now resembles a plague sanitarium.
2 weeks of snot and derision and little sign of improvement!
Molehill, these infections seem to last forever. My heart rate still hasn't normalised since I had COVID in July, and I seem have to a cold that isn't in my nose but instead is lurking in some other, unspecified part of my head.
But it's good to know you're still around! Still in mid-Wales?
Think we are paying the price for 2 years of near isolation and our bodies forgetting what the common cold is. This nonsense we have is worse than the covid, head full of goo, now a clogged up ear and general coughing and spluttering. Still here in mid Wales but I have been known to travel as far as England - only to go fishing!
Welcome back TF! sorry about the beer, its been hell trying to find disinfectant to clean the pipes. A certain little chap was seen scurrying off with the last delivery apparently in the belief that it was cure for Covid!
There’s a barrel of larger on tap, but it’s been open 5 years and nobody has touched it (I told them so).
Someone on the old committee said we should have larger on tap to encourage any youngsters that might come in.
What nonsense.
Some of us aren't allowed in, because we're under age
I wasn't here, you didn't see me. I'll just sneak out the back door before the Welsh contingent arrive
we could certainly add that theres a great social scene and we have our own bar..2 in fact but not many in the grand masters lounge where we have muesli with Dom Perigon for breakfast.
But I do think sell the praises of the forum purely on the info content which is far easier to search than spam central Face book
The recent article in the Fellrunner about the forum hardly seems to have led to a boost in numbers!!
Some bike lockers and EV charging points wouldn't go amiss - just saying!
Was going to mention Open Mic Nights but....Nah
I tell you what Moley, we have a friendship group of 5 families, all the kids grew up together and they are all off traveling and skiing together, they have there own family parties but we all meet up every few months and have a themed party.
Last year we hand a vinyl party, all the music was played on a record player and you had to come dressed as your favorite vinyl band member...we laughed so much, maybe that would make a great theme night.
I heard a whisper that we are going to have inside toilets installed.
If we get a vote on it, I'm against.
I quite enjoy the hit of fresh air as I make my way across the yard to the outside bogs.
And there is always the Alsatian guard dog roaming about to keep one on ones toes!
Inside toilets? 👎.
In my (slightly underage) teenage drinking days, our remote country pub had no toilets. When anyone enquired elderly landlord used to reply “There’s 40 bloody acres of woodland out there, what more do you want?”.
After he died some basic outside urinals were installed, these were guarded by Larry the ram, a pet ram with big horns and a stroppy attitude. Us locals had much mirth telling blokes where the toilet was “outside, turn left and round the back”, then all wait by the door for the inevitable 😂
This reminds me of a cycling holiday I had in Normandy and Brittany when I was 18. At one Youth Hostel where the facilities were fairly primitive, there was an outside toilet. When I opened the door of the cubicle and looked in, I decided that going into the nearby woodland would be more comfortable (although some of the woodland seemed to be growing inside the cubicle).
On a walking holiday in Slovenia staying in mountain huts one of which had very basic facilities consisting of 2 outside cubicles neither of which I chose to use. My wife wasn't quite as forgiving and spat her dummy out insisting we move on rather than staying a second night as planned. The situation wasn't helped by a disturbed night sleep with one dorm occupant snoring like Concorde taking off for most of the night.
I was in the Pyrenees last Autumn and visited the Maupas refuge, that had the most basic facilities that I have ever experienced. It was a basic cubicle with concrete drainpipe that (I imagine) led to some kind of treatment pit. It didn't even have a door, mind you the chances of being observed whilst in there are zero. If you take a look at the link below you can see said cubicle to the right of the main refuge, you get one hell of a view whilst having a dump :D

Well having travelled in India, China, Indonesia...I have roughed it with the best but it was in Tokyo that I first experienced the heated seat, warm water spray, warm air drying, odour extracting automatic electric facility.
Geberit offer a version from around £5000 and... well I never was one much for camping. :)
Wow, that's pretty scenic, Martyn!I think it might make me forget what I went in for. Mind you, it doesn't take a lot these days.
I agree with what people have said about this forum being a great resource and one that's easily searchable. I guess one of the problems is simply that this kind of forum has fallen out of fashion. Facebook took over, although I understand that even that is nowadays considered something for the Old Folk.
The other thing that put me off the Forum was the political ranting and nastiness that seemed to be taking over at one point. I point no finger, but it's pleasing that that appears to have quietened down. Perhaps there's a good side to being a smaller group: fewer trolls, less to police.
The most impressive toilet facilities I've met were on Crete at the Kallergi Mountain Refuge, high up above the Samaria Gorge. We were up there to walk up The highest of the White Mountains. Interesting as we had no map and the only directions we had came from an extremally drunk Italian who turned up at the hutand proceeded to drink himself unconscious. Great 2 day trip out meeting no one except a shepherd who spoke no English, but gave us some cheese.
Anyway the toilet was a decrepit wooden shed built out over a 1000ft drop into the Samaria Gorge. If you looked between your legs you could watch your 'Richard the Third' reach terminal velocity before crashing onto the rocks below. Memorable.
