It's a great help if you present yourself to the marshals for a kit check well before your team arrives, if only to prove you've taken responsibility for your own safety. I aim to do 100% checks at my changeover point - be warned :eek:.

We could help you out there but will take us around 1:15-20ish to reach checkpoint. :o
If youre still around when the Trawden(black/white verticals with a red horizontal) pair hand over, then give us a shout and you can get back with us. :D

Should be ok though, will just get someone to follow me to leg 1 end, drop my car off there, then jump in their's and head for the start.

My exact location is kept a secret, so as to retain an element of surprise.
Seriously, as it states on the event website and Lefty emphasises, the event attracts a lot of teams new to the fells. This makes kit checks even more important, particularly now that the forecasts have been revised down to -10C rising to -5C. There are 190 sets of kit to check at each changeover, so it really does help if pairs play their part and seek out the marshals early on. Personally, all I'm looking for is runners to demonstrate they've taken responsibility for their own safety and are suitably equipped for the conditions. Should be a quick 'rubber stamping' exercise, but in the past I've found a runner on the start line with no kit whatsoever, and already shaking uncontrollably with the cold. A rescue waiting to happen, and unfair on everyone else in the relay. (The individual was sent away to borrow kit.)
Looking forward to meeting 20% of you on Sunday at an undisclosed location. ;)
