Boonen or Divolder for me
65 miles for me today. I feel like i've been beaten up. The roads in this country are an absolute disgrace, almost third world..... I wish I was still in Majorca
Well, I am still in Majorca, just... tomorrow is the last day... and todays ride resembled the rides at home: strong wnds, pooring rain, flooded roads
Bit hardcore, think we were the only 5 cyclists out on the roads this morning  But I got done what I wanted done in some ways...
It cleared up while we were watching Tour of Flanders... great attack and ride from Cancellara... but I had expected and wished Boonen had won... Ah well! Paris-Roubaix next...
Sounds hell. You really feel cheated when you get English weather abroad. I went to the south of Spain in Feb' for warm weather training and just got weather training. Even had to go and and buy full finger gloves and over shoes, it was that bad. Not to mention the artificial tan I had to purchase to slap on my legs lol! Only good thing is that you can up the training a tad cos you're not working.
Still it 'll toughen you up for that day you get a race in the crap :)
Happy days
Julie
52miles for me yesterday in that headwind. Took in some of the hard climbs of the white peak. The drag up to Crich never gets any easier from Ambergate then the drag from the bridge up to Wirksworth just about wipes you out.
A nice run back though and I managed a good climb up to Tansley. Circled back around to Crich Stand and then hurtled back down again. Easily way over 45mph comin down there.
Felt good and met a couple of bikies who I dragged back to Heanor. They didnt pull on the front once.
It was a good Tour of Flanders and yes Hann I dearly wanted Boonen to win but Cancellara just was to strong on that climb.
Funny though Boonen distanced himself from Cancellara on one of the earlier climbs but maybe Fabian was bluffing. Armstrong looked strong.
Tour Of the Basque Country on now
To much cycling to bloody train:D.
Hmm I wouldnt mind one of those cycling weeks.
And Rodders , the roads are bad down here as well, not good:(
Looking forward to Paris-Roubaix next week. I can relate well to the conditions as the road down from the horseshoe pass into Trevor is very akin to the cobbles and cart tracks ! :rolleyes
Lance had his best ever finish at Flanders. Looking strong after being ill a couple of weeks ago.
Escaped work at last. Looking forward to a nice 80 on the bike in the morning and a good trot up Pendle on Wednesday - been looking forward to it Friday :)
Does any one rate these, ok I know one of you does but before I splash out what do the rest of you think
TACX Swing Turbo Trainer
Hi fellow cyclists:D
I bought a Giant Defy 4 a few months back as a entry bike for my (first) triathlon.
I've only used it 4 or 5 times, once in the rain, and there is rust appearing on just about everything, bolts, pedal, chain etc:mad: I took it back to shop this morning for free service/check up etc and the guy (who I thought I knew quite well) says 'oh it happens on all bikes at that price''the good bits are the frame and forks and the rest is cheap stuff'
Any thoughts before I...a. fall out with him ; b. complain to Giant ; c. be in bother with Mrs Bother:o
I've got a Tacx Swing in the garage & a CycleOps Fluid 2 at work. Both good trainers, but I think the Tacx is better put together. Should be a good buy IDP.
Got 90 miles in today. Went a convoluted route to the Wharfe cafe at Otley - still stupidly cheap. Was a little tougher on the way back into the wind and more hills but it stayed dry and was quite mild - ate al fresco.
Not many rides for me at the moment, as 'small-childs' on half-term for 3 weeks!!
So, they're more or less limited to riding to work & back (via a longer route)
It's still the best value eatery around surely??
I know I went in on my way home from the 'Ilkley Moor Fell-Race' (21st Feb), & had; Meat & Potato Pie, Chips, Mushy Peas. Pot of tea. Rhubarb Crumble & Custard.
It was £3.80 for all of that, & I couldn't eat anything else the rest of the day;)
We used to call in on every ride out that way, even if only for a pot of tea (eating in there, then heading out up Norwood Edge, or back via East Chevin wouldn't have been nice..........)
- we'd also end up at 'Buffers' ('Back o t'Hill'??) cafe at Storiths too -
Digressing Slightly;
I was browsing the 'Ilkley Harriers' site earlier (for details of their 'Trail Race' in May), & noticed this topic.

I'll have to watch out for their members at the Cyclo-Crosses

It's certainly the cheapest cafe any of our cycling lads have been to - Blind Beck At Horton In Ribblesdale probably comes second but the menu is quite restrictive there. I enjoyed fish fingers (4) chips (plenty) and beans (loads) washed down with 2 pint mugs of tea for £2.60. Going back a few years you used to get your drink thrown in if you bought a meal but I guess that's the recession for you :D
It is still there but we tend to use Inglesport cafe next door upstairs. It is better food, similar price with the odd pretty waitress and the heating is usually on. I ordered beans on toast in Bernies in 1985 and they still haven't turned up. There used to be a cafe further down the street on the left called Fountains cafe which has now changed back to a house. It was basically someones front room but the breakfast was great and really cheap.
Ahhh... ohhh, GOOD! Knee problem solved :)
Had a rest day yesterday, ytavelling back from Majorca and going to work... and today 45 minutes easy was on the porgram. As I had not unpacked my bike yet and the race bike has a turbo wheel on the back and no brake blocks, I decided to take the TT bike out for that. I have a 10 on Sunday anyway, first race of the season...
Ekkkk! That was a bit of a shock to the system, not been on it since July last year... It felt weird and painful and the front end (with 50mm deep section carbon wheels on) went all nervous and twicthy when I reached a speed of above 50 km/hr
Proper training session on it tomorrow and better use it for my ride on Friday too... all TT specific anyway. Got to get used to that baby! I can feel the middle one of my quads, even though I was going easy
Last ride in Majorca on Monday was fantastic. Not downloaded the Garmin yet, but it was about 120 kms and 2000 metres of climbing. We went up Selva Gorge, then down to sa Calobra and back home...
That road to Sa Calobra is AMAZING!!! Thought it would be harder to get up than it actually was. Had a few hairraisning moments on the way down! Was just pulling back in after overtaking a couple of cars when suddenly this tour bus appears around the bedn, taking up the whole of the road. I looked left of him, right of him and decided on the precipitous side (rhs) so that I could actually fall off the cliff if needed, rather than be crushed against a mountain side... I had a black mark on my arm where I touched the side of the bus... Only jsut fitted between him and the side of the road
My intended ride from Leeds to Malham yesterday came to an abrupt halt at Burley In Wharfedale when some clown ploughed into me on the roundabout. Bike is repaired now but I'm feeling a bit battered and bruised today !
Milthorpe 10 tonight
first race in anger for 26 years
really have no idea how slow i will be?
20.06 in 1983. can i break under 30 mins in 2010
Schedule called for a quality hour on the turbo today, but as I'm off work I went over to the Horseshoe Pass.
Plan was to do 10 * hill climb route  .
After 5 I thought 7 would be enough  .
After 6 I thought that's enough, I'd better save something for my 3000mtr swim tonight :D :D .

32 miles & 1560mtrs, climb averaged 15:50mins.
target for the "10" was 30 minutes
actual time was 30.00 minutes dead. good pacing
I am quite pleased as it is only 4th time out on the bike this year and probably only the 10th time out in last 26 years.
next week get under 30 mins!!
