Rummage, rummage....nope sorry Mr B. Nowt by him/her!
Just had a special request from wee Tam McTavish who emigrated to Aberangell back in the 80's. He wants to watch the match on Saturday and has been banned from the Brigand Inn for having ginger hair so he's asking if he can come to The Lounge to watch the match on Saturday. I said its fine as long as he brings some McKewans and no bloody bagpipes! Is that OK with everyone?
So long as he brings some ale it’s fine with me. Wouldn’t mind some pickled eggs and pork scratchings too 👍
I thought Tam would never leave. All that crying in his beer. Scared half to death he was.
Anyway, advance notice. The Lounge will be shutting shop next Saturday...I have lucked into a couple of tickets for the England game. So unless anyone wants to babysit the bar, it's a dry house this coming weekend.
I’ll open up, pop up there on my bike and watch the game in the lounge, see if I can spot Wheeze in the crowd!
Presuming Wales win I may have a couple of extra celebratory pints and sleep on the sofa, if not I shall make my way home under a ☁️.
All welcome to drop in, preferably wearing a red shirt.
Excellent plan Moley! Given all the difficulties with Brains deliveries from Cardiff due to the ongoing problems with the A470, I've had a word with those nice folks at the Purple Moose brewery in Portmadog. They've promised to pop a couple of barrels of Dark Side of The Moose down tomorrow if someone will be there to open up around 12. That OK with you?
That’s fine I can make it over the hills by then (in my dreams), I enjoy the Purple Moose but with kick off not for a few hours I had better be disciplined or I shall be asleep on the sofa before the game starts.
If anyone else drops by, please bring some pies.
The Wales U20s have shown the big boys how to do it, seniors turn now.
I’ve drunk the barrel dry, sleeping under the table with the dog. Just don’t say anything 😢
I couldn't even raise a glass, never mind a smile. How has it come to this?
Hope the hangover is not too bad!
Staggered home over the hills yesterday, I usually look forward to the 6 Nations but already next years competition seems ominously close - from a Wales perspective.
Who knows what upheavels the next few months will bring?
They are bringing Japan, Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa!.....erm, any bets??
Sorry, sorry, sorry. For all our most welcome brethren from over the border, jolly well done. Great to see some flowing rugby and a try-fest. If you were English, it would have been wonderous and is pay-back for 1999 and 2013.
Just heard, 18 Welsh players have been selected for the lions tour. The bus leaves for Longleat tomorrow at 9 a.m. sharp!
We cannot desert a sinking ship, though possibly it has now fully sunk to the bottom. Let us hope the only way is back to the surface.
I feel your pain Wheeze & Moley :D :D
Stunned. Thats all there is to say.
Hey Moley, you'll never guess who Toffer and I met yesterday in the deepest, darkest Black Mountains??!
Or are you referring to sitting in The Bear with Toffer drinking Butty and reliving past glories?
We were deep on the valley between Pen Twyn Glas and Pen Y Gadair Fawr and got chatting to a couple of chaps, one of whom was in the LDWA.....
Umm, no idea, would I know them from your Steambunny adventures?
Tall chap called David Morgan. morgs4mountains.
Hello to Britnick and GeoffB on the Edale Skyline route this morning..... was like a forum reunion up there!
Been looking at his Cambrian Way and reliving my walk. Now so pleased I did it when I could and reminds me of what a totally stunning countryside we live in - through the heart of Wales - I believe our generation had the best of it all, there was a bit of edge and unknown in everything we did.
It was a brilliant 5 days. From scampering over the Rhinogs to bog-trotting on the Plylimon approach, the route has everything. Treasured memories!
The traffic lights on the A470 at Talerddig are scheduled to be removed this coming Friday. To mark the occasion, I have contacted Brains in Cardiff to ask them for a special delivery of SA and Dark stout on Saturday so we can celebrate the selection of the Lions team. The Red Lion owners have allowed us to set up a special bar and have an extension till way past my bedtime. Anyone passing through is more than welcome to drop in. There will be a free pint to everyone for each Welsh Player that makes the team....I'm not expecting to give away much!
Couple of pints of SA it is then 👍, be great if the boys got a run out in a test (is that more free beer on your tab 🍺)?
How we have fallen in such a short time, chickens coming home to roost etc. Onwards and upwards.
Brains? Who are they?
Wikipedia says: Brains (S. A. Brain & Company Ltd.) is a regional brewery based in Cardiff, Wales. It was founded in 1882 by Samuel Arthur Brain.[1] At its peak, the company controlled more than 250 pubs in South Wales (particularly in Cardiff), Mid Wales and the West Country.
I say: Brains beer is worth tracking down if you enjoy a good heady ale. SA is creamy with a sharp aftertaste. If you like your dark Ales, Brains Dark is well worth tracking down. Quite rare to find it now but, back in the day, a well kept pint of Dark could rival Guiness for a tasty, chewy drink.
Around 10 years ago I went on a stag do pub crawl in Dronfield, NE Derbyshire. I couldn't believe my luck when the first pub we went in , The Sidings, had Brains Dark Mild on offer at 50p a pint.
Apparently they had had a beer festival the previous weekend and had a barrel and a half left over.
Needless to say we crawled no further than The Sidings and I made a few converts of people who had never tasted Dark Mild. As Wheeze says, delicious stuff if kept well.
Whilst on the subject of brains I remember eating Brains pork faggots in gravy. They were delicious and made by a butcher in Bristol.
As Cardiff and Bristol are not far away from each other I wonder if he was related to the Brains brewer?. Having said that, Bristol was a lot further away from Cardiff before the Severn Bridge was built, unless you were a good swimmer!
They are still available as Mr Brains faggots but no longer a family concern.
Just seen a fb that the fra are closing us down.
It's a dark day indeed..
Wouldn’t it be polite to announce it on here?
