A slight tangent I admit and I won't do it again, promise but during yesterday's snatched ride in the rain I wondered 'what is an open tub?' and assuming that it is a tub constructed tyre with a rim to stop it fraying etc 'do you fit them to clincher wheels or tub wheels?' Odd the things you think about when tired enough to fall from the bike and wet enough to not care.
98km yesterday from s.London out to Surrey and Kent at a steady pace.
As far as I am aware, it is a clincher made by using the same technique as a tubular... only, it isn't sewn [sp] up like a tub, it is open with beads like a clincher... So you get the quality of a tub, without having to have special tubular rims or glue them on, if that makes sense? Open tubs tend to be quite expensive!

I'm just confused now so:
Tubs. Stitched-in innertube and mounted on relatively lightweight tub-specific rims. Tyres, open tubs and tubular clinchers CANNOT be mounted on these rims.
Tyres, open tubs and tubular clinchers: These have a beed of wire or Kevlar that hooks onto a corresponding hook on the wheel rim. Tubs CANNOT be mounted on such rims.
