I totally agree, but perhaps should not comment (going to anyway) as we have not watched a single TV news in over 6 weeks, even turn the BBC radio news off. I do follow on BBC internet news but at least I can open or ignore articles as I want.
But I have found the news and journalistic "blame culture" approach to it so depressing it winds me up more than the virus. This also goes for some forums with what I would term political agitators posting endless blame that inevitably start with "The Guardian article says........". I have left one forum and rarely log onto another. Probably most complainers have never in their lives been in a managerial position faced with making choices about very complex issues - instantly.
There will be much talk about mental health after this, personally I think the negative press approach and public internet moaning will do more harm than anything else.
I don't think i'm too interested in downloading the app... for one, i don't take my phone out with me when running, usually don't when going to the shops. Not all people have smart-phones (as hard as that is to believe)... my mum uses the most basic of smartphones, and in typical oap style, only turns it on to make a call, so can never get in touch with her if i need to!
Not forgetting, as mentioned above, the potential for the app to not work correctly, and you to be wrongly notified to isolate. Privacy issues don't necessarily worry me... i think we are kidding ourselves if we think our data and location isn't already monitored (or at least potential is already there should it need to be for legal purposes).
The difference in accuracy between the GPS tracking on my phone and on my Garmin watches is unbelievable.
I can see the Phone GPS placing me in the location of someone 50 yards away!
Yes there is often a huge lag or simply an error in phone location...
Probably out of context but I find that my phone gps is pretty accurate when used in conjunction with Viewranger.
But NO I wll not be downloading the app.
I think in principle it's a good idea and offers a way back to normality. There is one thing I would like to clarify though. If you've been notified that you could have been in contact with somebody who has tested positive, are you automatically able to take a test yourself or do you just have to self isolate for 14 days? I've read articles that suggest both. You would hope it is the former in which case you would not have to self isolate if the test came back negative. Otherwise you could be repeatedly having to self isolate, not knowing whether you had the virus or not.
Also, what happens if you've already had Covid-19 and you are notified you have been in contact with somebody testing positive? At present there is no firm evidence that you are immune from getting it again.
Not for us, don't have the phones.
For those who can't be bothered to establish the facts, the NHS app uses Bluetooth.
