Re: Edale Skyline 2012
I was just seconding IDP's request to get back on track and not commenting on your post. I should have edited the quote to reflect that, sorry!:)

Re: Edale Skyline 2012
Right back on track...
There's still a lot of potential places which will dished out to people on the waiting list over the next few days. But 590 entries today mean that not everyone will get a place.
And just for the record I never felt critized by anyone, it was a good debate, well worth having. Although off topic do I've started this thread http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...dure-for-races I'd be interested in people's views over on that.
Several good points were raised about the increasing popularity of our sport and the effects this has on participants.

Re: Edale Skyline 2012
Quick update - the current entry list is here https://www.sientries.co.uk/list.php?event_id=962
As mentioned previously I'll be adding people from the waiting list over the next couple of weeks.
Nothing much will be happening over the weekend as I've got the raw nerve to go to the lakes and go out and play!

You're not allowed to come and play up here unless you give all the Borrowdale Team an entry

Now why would he do that? We all know that only the Borrowdale pensioners travel out of Cumbria.
Happy New Year BM.

Don't forget to change your brass at Burton-in-Kendal services, they do a great exchange rate but only on the way up.
Enjoy Ian and long may the banta continue.

Speaking as Borrowdale's only pensioner I can confirm that I will be there! But beware the upcoming pensioners around here.

Re: Edale Skyline 2012
Best of luck to all, getting those last few places, it is a shame to hear that a good deal of people don't even make it to the race.
A click on a computer mouse is easy...
A good idea would be to encourage folks that can't make it to put their starting number up-for-grabs.
Bet there would be enough to go 'round.

"A good idea would be to encourage folks that can't make it to put their starting number up-for-grabs."
As last year substitutions will be encouraged. All I ask is a £3 donation to Edale MRT.
There will be details of how to do this on dpfr.org.uk soon
-
Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
just people know, the current status of entries is -
Active Entries: 500 Participants
Waiting List Entries: 141 Participants
I will take this up to 550 over the next two weeks then start substitutions.
Also like last year I will be Ebaying a few places (5) with all the money going straight to Edale MRT. May as well use supply and demand to make some money for a good cause...
Will post here when this begins.
oh, and I had no problem at Cumbria passport control this weekend, I think someone must have put in a good word for me ;)

Told them to let you through for putting a few of our runners onto the entry list. Just need our 'A' Team runners in now, including the course record holder !!!
Hope you had a good weekend, cracking day on Saturday :)

I'm hanging on to the vague hope that I get in now. I feel like such a muppet to miss the entry on the first time I've had a go at the champs season. I'm doing a recce anyway with some others and will keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Those who have missed out could look here -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=230924684680
All money from these places will be going to Edale MRT, so bid now...

There's places for people who can challenge in any category and certainly for Gavin, would be good to have both record holders racing! Her on the waiting list and drop me an email.

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Purely out of curiosity: but wouldn't the ascent have to be 1700m to be a Class A? (And I am not suggesting the race is anything but tough, I finished it in 2007 and it nearly finished me!)
-
Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
You are quite correct, but if you take all the shortcuts it brings the length down a bit which might just swing it, especially if you do the down and up.

My shortcuts normally add on about 15%:o

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
A quick update...
The last few invites have been sent out over this week (some just now) and the race is now full. There are still 133 people on the waiting list so substitutions are your best bet.
or the few places that are on ebay (with all the money going to Edale MRT) there's one on there now...
I will still make allowances for exceptional athletes, (including the current record holder who is welcome to run if he wants to), but otherwise that's it.
and just to be clear - there are no entries on the day. Not any, for anyone, ever.
-
Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Ian, is there volunteering on the day though?
I can't commit cos of unkown work schedule but I would like to think I could spectate the start and middle and then do summut to give back by volunteering at the finish even if just clearing up.

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Race Maps have now updated the map to show the alterations and moved checkpoint on the 2013 route. They are in stock at Lakes Runner: Here..........!

good luck to everyone that got in. just typical that I was working away and the hotel would not boot their broadband router until 11pm that night and by that time it was full. bid £20 on ebay and was away again when the auction ended and was pipped again. sent a couple of emails as well so I have tried my best. I am going to run the rest of the championship races as its the first time I feel i am getting anywhere near some level of fitness. going tea total since 1st Jan has helped.
anyway hope everyone has a good run and i will go on Kent Valley Road Club's memorial ride instead and enjoy the tea and cakes at the head of Kentmere valley

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Just done the up down and up from Grindslow to Ringing Rodger with Mrs Stagger.
29 minutes total and we estimate we could run the top way in about 24 minutes.
Conclusion is for runners of our limited ability to stick to the top route.
Bloody cold on tops with the wind chill all the grass was covered in an icey layer, but great to be out and not working.

But what would it be after 19 miles.....
And yes to your previous post..:)

Would be slightly quicker as I would be up to race temp. Ha Ha Ha, why run 19m? We have a car.
Leave it to the front runners is my best advice. Might watch to see if anyone has a crack on race day.

I've marshalled grindslow a few times and half of the top 30 do the down and up.
-
Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Recce'd it today (latter half anyway) and can confirm how bloody cold it was. We all had frozen eyelashes and I had frost on the outside of my jacket after the run across the top from Jacob's ladder. The new checkpoint location appears to be as you go through the gate towards Jacob's ladder, instead of heading to the left after the gate, you head straight on down the track a hundred yds or so to the checkpoint, then head sharp left (or straight across if you fancy) towards the ladder.
Edit - hope that makes sense as I've not done the route before so it's all new to me either way.
-

And anecdotally at least half of those regret it.
-
Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Consensus today during recce was if you reach that point and feel ok, and are generally a good climber, then it's probably a better option. If no to either of these points, then probably sensible to stick to the top route.

Any indications as to why they felt they needed to change the location of this checkpoint?
There are no reasons given on the DPFR site - just a comment about read the FAQs before bombarding the RO with emails and a really handy URL which eventually takes you to anywhere but the FAQs.
No doubt IDP will supply the answer presently (BHCS).

Already been answered in this thread, so as to get mobile reception for live timing IIRC.

No line of sight signal for beaming back the 'live' electronic timing to edale car park... 150m down the hill is just round the corner and in sight.
