I was lucky, I suppose. I picked a good day for it (cool & clear), knew the route pretty well & carried no water at all (just loads of cake!).

I did the Dozen today starting from Blackden Brook with Jodg. the weather was pretty good if a windy. It seem to swing from cold and blustery to a furnasce in some of the clough but there was planty of water around, possibly too much as the going was decidedly squishy! The bracken was like fighting through the Amazon rain forrest at times but we set our selves an ambitious 7.30 schedule. At Crowden tower we were just on pace but Jan then had to head home to do some jobs, Luckily there was another group of 3 DPkers doing the round so I sat down for 10 minutes to wait for them.

They really pushed the pace and i was soon back on track and then up. I was very happy to finished in 7.23 given my short break and they came in just under 7.12-14.

Late April-early May and 7 hours will definitely go with no bracken and dryer conditions. Geoffs time still remains awsome.

Before any one asks yes the knee was fine if a little sore coming off Grindsbrook, I might just sit down with a diary and....

I did a Kinder half-dozen on Saturday - Bowden Bridge up to Harry Moor Ford, round to Seal Stones (4 sections), then across to Grindslow and continue round (2 more sections). I had a nice easy 4:20 run - taking it quite easy as it's my only run over 2.5 hrs this whole year apart from the Edale Skyline!

Quite fun, but descending was very hard going. Not sure how much of that was not knowing where the paths were (e.g. there's a path Crowden Tower - Clough but I didn't know that!) and how much was the depth of the grass. I kept nearly being tripped up as my feet sank into the grass! I guess it'd be easier at another time of year.

I'm looking for a new challenge for 2009 and found this thread and it looks like fun.

Plotted all the grid references on memory map but couldn't work out the route.

At first I went from each point to the summit of Kinder Scout but that was about 85 miles (as the crow flys) and 20,200ft ascent so obviously it was not that.

After a little searching I found this map. would you say it was a pretty good route to follow?

Thats Kens original map. it's pretty much spot on. as long as you visit all the CP you have a freedom to explore and to be honest large areas of the route are open moor, usually vertical or it just feels that way.

I have it on memory map and i also have the full route description. Send me a PM with your email and I'll send it to you, Its a tough day out with only short bits that are runnable, the other route to look at is the Killer, much nicer than the name suggests.
