Map of the old Buttermere race

It would be amazing if this ever made it back on to the calendar, and I for one would support it wholeheartedly.

I won the junior race here a couple of times when I was 10/11ish which started from the village hall and from memory, went about halfway up Melbreak before re-tracing steps.

By the time I got round to doing long lakeland races this was way off the calendar, but my dad did it a few times and I would love to have a crack at it.

There's been some very positive noises on this thread. Hopefully one of the CFR lads can let us know how it's going.

For some reason I'd kind of ignored this thread!! Glad I had a nosey!! Sounds like a real good race, if it comes to pass count me in!! I've only just completed the Classic Lakes Longs and now you try and add another!!! :thumbup:

Quick update - I'm just about to go on holiday for two weeks from tomorrow.

I was a little slower off the mark after the Great Lakes than intended, so progress hasn't been as far as I had wanted. My first priority is sorting permissions, so I queried my local orienteering club contacts who we use to request access for our 'O' events. So I'm getting there with that and now I've just contacted the local National Trust office that we normally go through. So we'll just have to see what they say.

I hope we can use the village hall again - it may be a deciding factor on which day to hold the race as it would be a great place to use (we used it last year and the guy that had just taken over running it was really helpful).

Looks like the planning is going well - it's made it in to next year's calendar! 29th June,from Loweswater Village Hall - advertised as 21.5 miles & just short of 10,000 feet - ouch! CFR organising, so watch that space!

Same for me to, just hope i have recovered enough from my BG attempt;)

Only found out its made it on to next year's calendar last night. I'm delighted!!! Seen as I started this thread I'd better run it next year.....
