I take your point but I think we're pretty safe for now. I doubt many attended Pendle (during the Christian Festival of The Chocolate Egg) just to get yet more chocolate, our Gracie would have come anyway, I'm sure. I don't think that a choccie bar and a bag of crisps in a sandwich bag is going to set a one-upmanship ball rolling. It all helps send them away with positive memories of the day, ready for the next fixture.
There's a parallel to be drawn with senior events; I love the Wadsworth Trog for it's low key atmosphere and a tough course, and would turn up anyway but the free soup/tea/coffee and home made cakes definitely swings it for me.
I'd definitely trade that for chip timing and a coaster!
