A most civilized way of manning a checkpoint. A few years back I did take a crate of beer on a checkpoint the missus and I were manning, a very hot day and a few indulged with relish.

There is also the 'real ale ramble', organised by Gordon Green here locallly in Wales, I've never done it as I believe it can be a bit spartan with regards food etc. and a lot of forest track work (boring). But he does put a couple of barrels of ale out in the woods to help yourself on the way round. I believe this has resulted in some interestingly slow runs :D

A big THANKS to the East Lancs LDWA for a cracking day out.

Please, please, please try one of these events. They're as competitive as you want them to be - well done Mick and Ozzy btw (1st/2nd), food/drinks all the way round, cheap to enter and a great way of getting a long run under your belt on a weekend.

To follow up on Chris Browns' post - CP6 was high on the moors so not really practical to carry water up there so it was a choice of either Whiskey, Rum or Sherry - and not a UKA/Claim Direct official in sight........

I can highly recommend the Anglezarke Amble on Sat. 10th Feb. It's a brill. route ( a little bit of overlap with the 2 Crosses) with good refreshments en route and at the end. Entry forms are available online at http://uk.geocities.com/west_lancs_ldwauk/amble

Combined with the Winter Hill race the following day it makes for a great weekend.

I've seen the route for the shorter course for the anglezarke amble, where does the longer route go to?

Anglezarke Amble - some vague recollections from doing this two years ago:

Rivington Pike
Winter Hill (past TV masts)
Down the hill over road (A675 I think)
Can't remember anything between there and Darwen Tower, except some very nice cakes
Great Hill, I think by way of Slipper Lowe
White Coppice
Past the reservoirs back to Rivington

Hope I remember correctly. If I ever find the route description again, I'll post some more details. I enjoyed this event - the weather was bad, but the refreshments were first class.

I've not done it but did and "enjoyed" the 2 crosses (just under 5hrs - crap i know! - i only saw 1 cross? cos am that fast!). Here is a detailed link - grid refs, entry details and route desc for the anglezarke Amble

Its looks tougher than the 2 crosses coz of more climb but given a good day it should be ok

Anyone else run at Anglezarke today?
I followed some iffy gen on the route desc and added some extra on (not for fun either).
At least I had some studs in the snow to follow when I rejoined the field.
Good scran afterwards as ever.
Made for a decent alternative to Wadsworth.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was keen to do the Ambleside LDW but it's the same day as the Edale. Anyhow the tightarses on LDWA are waaaay worse than any at FRA. They were giving nothing away! Talk about elitist and not even giving the bloody dates of walks! And I quote, "only brief details of events in the near future are available to non-members which makes long-term planning very difficult."
