Might have seen you last Monday when we did our recce. Certainly saw a lot of Groughs!
Your first name isn't Pete is it?:)

Thanks to Des and his team for putting that race on. Not done it before but knew the ground pretty well anyway. A bit warm heading out but there was a nice breeze on the way back.
Now to relax with a few beers and watch the footy :D

Results (as an image file) - Photos - video (part 1) up - rather interesting soundtrack
First, cheers to Des and co for putting on the race today. Couldn't have wanted better weather! :)
Fast race that and despite my best efforts I ended up sitting out for several minutes in top of Laddow, felt bloomin' awful. Plodded out again tentatively and got my 2nd wind. Will have to settle for 83mins, had hoped for better. :(
Great to see the bog monster population actively participating on the day, several runners coming a cropper in the peaty murk. :p
See you all next year.
First 'proper' race back after an 18 month break from fell running due to pregnancy and assorted injuries (Done a couple of short and easy fell races and XCs this year but nothing too taxing). Really enjoyed this one, remember doing Lad's Leap a couple of years ago in similar weather and am now convinced that Crowden is always hot and sunny.
Thanks to the organisers for a good one!
I've sent the results off to Brett, so they should be appearing soon. Bear in mind, though, I copied them from Richard Asquith's photo of the results board, so there's every chance I couldn't read what was written or I couldn't type what I'd read!
Apologies in advance for any errors.
Oh yes, it was a great day for the race. Well done Compo - local knowledge & navigational skills is what it says, so if you've got it... Hope Helen has recovered from her nose-plant at the stream crossing, she didn't half go with a bang & splash.
It was just after your impromptu mud bath that I caught up to you, I thought I’d had it bad sinking in the brow stuff to just above my knees until I saw you muddied to the waist.
First time I have done this race, had a cracking time, and was hoping for a better position but still recovering from a chest infection which slowed me down on the up hill bits (well that’s my excuse);)
Thanks to Des and his team for putting the race on, really enjoyed it
Results are up - http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/results...horseshoe.html
Excellent race - first fell race this year owing to an assortment of not very good excuses!
Had a fair few splodges in the bog, but nothing as fun as some of you seem to have achieved - I'll try harder next year!
Started off slow, and as a result was comfortable most of the way around, gaining places all of the way. Was baulked by lady on final descent, so improvised and hurdled the fence next to the final stile. Could not catch the next lady though....
Sunburn has just about worn off!
Many thanks to organizers for a fantastic event!
See you next year!
Excellent vids, Richard. Thanks.
I can't believe that I have only just joined the forum....anyway as race organiser of the Crowden Horseshoe, I hope everyone enjoyed the race and that a recce of the course was successful.
Welcome Des. It's great to have you with us.
What - THE Des Gibbons? :D
After running up and down the hills for over 23 years this will be the first time I have done this race, it's in our club h/cap, is it nice and simple or are there any tricky bits, it don't look too bad on paper and I would like to win 22pts, so come on all you Dark people pass your secrets on to me and I promise I won't tell any of my club runners
Not any more:rolleyes: Route up follows PW so no problems there, A few steep rocky bits, A couple of stream crossings high up but they have very little water in at the moment but beware they are usually very slippy. then on to the slabs which are invisable from a distance but they do appear.
Way off from the Lump used to be tricky but there is trod now followed by a big post/cairn marking the way. From there it gets rougher but a trod all the way back to the track, watch out for the turning off below the quarry by the stile(should be marked and have spectators)
IDP
Cheers IDP
Roll on Sunday. Got a pass out for this one.
Should be a lot more enjoyable than last year when I ran with a chest infection, not good.
Ok last time I raced this, (One or two years ago...) I finished in 86.14.
so I shall nail my colours(or my head) to the mast etc and say I intend to knock 10 minutes of this time.
any other predictions....?
Hoping to get there too, and was wanting sub 1.25 - first non-club race as a Dark Peaker, sadly I've not got round to getting a brown vest yet so it'll not quite be like racing for a new club.
No. I'm saying nowt.
Might do this, have done one bike ride since peaks and drunk lots of wine so it will be purely to potter and sweat crap out. Is there a map anywhere? Have not got as far as checking organising club website yet.
Hi Paul
I'm not sure there is one.
Marvin may have a copy but basically up on to PW and follow this CW to Blackhill(soldiers Lump) From there head 155mag (Trod) over Tooleyshaw-West end Moss-Hey Moss to track to SW of Quarry then over stile and down to finishing fields.
I can print one out for you and bring if you don't have a Dark Peak map.
I promise not to mention the Forum
ok yes please I will commit now, don't worry the recent wine diet I have had is to help me be so far back that I won't hear your whine.
Its ok, now cn't make it, dying dog and childcare required. Will go over to Hambledon instead, thanks anyway.
My handicap for this race is 47%, so if the race winner does the same time as the record holder I should be about 81 minutes so I dont think you will have any problem with your time Ian
This was my second official fell race, in 2006. I'd only done a Trunce before so I had the shock of my life!
Love the course now, although I'd rather it was much wetter, makes for more fun.
Had to spectate this one today with the nippers. Great to catch up and see all the "cut & thrust", wish I'd been able to take part.
A few snaps here for now:

some good pics there Jan
Well Done to Em 2nd lady
I have to say you don't really look Lady U23 though ;)
Don't think I've seen so many forumites in one place , Must have been 20 or so and they were the ones I knew.
I've been ill all afternoon though. :(
Thanks to Des and the marshalls.
