Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Can you have mixed teams?? It doesn't say so I assume you can
and
'The HPM is open to teams of four all of whom must have experience of strenuous winter expeditions in the mountains.'
what constitutes experience of strenuous winter conditions?? I looked at the entry form but it won't let me go to the 2nd page unless all the details are complete - are there qualifying races etc??

Emmilou, all gender combinations are accepted.
Forty odd miles at night in the heart of the Peak District, quite often in very bad weather requires previous experience in similar events such as M Marathons, long distance events, 24hr challenges. It would not be fair to your team if you entered not knowing how you would cope with the conditions and gave up part way through.

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
entered a team of 4 today fingers crossed we get a place.
-
Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Just managed to get a team together :)
Page 2 of the entry form just gives you 3 lines of text on which to state previous experience. Three of us have done loads of stuff - MMs etc - the fourth has done no fell running or similar events, but has lots of mountain experience, Alps, Scottish winter, etc, so we're hoping that's good enough.
The chances of our getting in anyway seem pretty remote - about 25%?

HPMM,
You might find that the space available for previous experience expands as you add items.

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
You could well be right :)
I didn't get as far as filling anything in, just put in some details on page 1 to find out exactly what info I needed to get for page 2...

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Any news on entries yet people? closed 30th Nov, when did people get told last year.
And yes i am keen!
-
Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
I've got the general gist of the route but does anyone know of a link to a page with a map on so we can start getting the crucial sections recce'd?
Thanks
-
Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Just received an email from the organisers. :(
Anyone short of a runner yet?
-
Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Just got in - got to keep the team together now. I've always got in as a replacement before!
-
Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Our team were invited in at 10 days notice for this year's race, so we weren't very well prepared, and there wasn't much opportunity for last minute reccies. One year it would be nice to get in from the outset, and be ready for it.
I think I'll assume that there's a good chance of a run this time and prepare anyway.

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
The email just arrived - we're in!
Don't panic, don't panic, don't panic, breathe deeply...

Our team hasn't got in............gutted:(. Really enjoyed last year's and was looking forward to doing it again this year.

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Thought I'd better start plotting the route :)
Is the Derwent Moor control (202880) really below the broad ridge, rather than on the ridge itself? Or is the grid ref wrong? Or more worryingly, can I no longer plot a grid ref properly?
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/id4.srf?X...8050&A=Y&Z=120
Other than that, it all looks quite straightforward. Ahem.

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Well my team didn't get in:( but if we don't get a late entry then I'll head up and camp some where on route and make fun of you all whilst I cook bacon sandwiches:D

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
After years of trying, SPOOK 2007 finally made it on the list! Maybe it was the teamname change from "monoboob and an arm" that did it?
We have 5 people wanting 4 places though so someone is gonna have to get injured/locked in a cupboard come March. The bookies have slashed the odds that I'm the fall guy :S

It is on the ridge, at the path junction.
What may not be where specified is the CP "below High Neb".

Can I join you IDP? In fact I could even camp somewhere else and cook up bacon sandwiches (for me that is).:D

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team team hasn't got in (Phew):D.
Think rest of team are disapointed. One or two of us will be out on route to give some encouragment to all, and take some photographs.
Good luck to all that are in, hope the weather is something like last Sunday.
Last night around Penistone it was clear and bright with a 3/4 (ish) moon.

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Well im gutted at not getting in after enjoying it so much last year:(
Will just have to choose something else now.

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
A lot of races are filling up very early. Is there a groundswell of people doing this type of event as a challenge ? I feel there must be :(

Always been very popular, this one.
I helped organise it in the late 80s and early 90s and ran it / marshalled it several times. It was just as hard to get an entry then

I'll probably be having a recce that weekend for my 15 trigs attempt if you fancy an alternative to sitting on your arses eating bacon?:D
-
Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Hmmm... that's a tough one...
-
Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
Does it count as outside support if we steal your sandwiches as we run/walk/crawl past? If necessary we're prepared to dispose of your bodies in the nearest bog.

Re: High Peak Marathon Marchis
My team is in :). Apparently 108 teams applied and 40 were accepted.
-
