That was certainly a soggy one. Thank you to all the marshalls-especially the 2 at Grisedale beck assisting in the crossing. Great camaraderie out on the course-performance of the day has got to be from one of my fellow backmarkers who managed to get from St Sundays to the finish despite the sole of his Walsh being virtually detached from the upper part. Not sure how I managed to finish in a longer time compared to last year despite not having to do the dog leg back up the valley. Thank you to A. Ratti & the ladies manning the tea & sarnies table. Good to see everybody in such good spirits at the finish-commiserations to those that got timed out.
Right I'm of to have a yummy Gu desert - the blueberry cheescake yummmmm yum :)
Really glad I listened to Mark L and decided to do this. Great race - really enjoyed it. Big thanks to the organisers, marshalls and refreshment ladies.

Was out walking up there yesterday - hope the 2 guys we saw who came down to the west side of Grisedale Tarn and followed the path below Seat Sandal to Grisedale Hause got back on track (one was in a Lostock top) - especially after we later saw them coming back up to the hause from the south as we headed down towards Tongue Gill!
Well done to all who finished, was out marshalling on the Thirlmere side for another event so know what conditions were like.
Hope the guy i saw near the summit found the way down to Grizedale Tarn ok.
Just about dried out and looking forward to getting drenched up there again on Tuesday!!

The lostock lad turned up, not sure which one you saw as one went thirlmere, one went to fairfield and one went to patterdale ha ha 2 out the 5 of us finished :-)

Hopey - I was with a Lostock runner called Mike on the descent from Dollywagon to Grisedale Tarn. Visibility was such that we didn't see the tarn until we were almost in it! Mike and I began the ascent to Deepdale Hause together but then he dropped behind. I wondered about waiting for him but couldn't see how far behind he'd got on account of the clag and it wasn't the sort of weather to hang around in. I decided that, as it was a race, he should be able to look after himself, so I carried on. After all, I wasn't that confident in my own navigation so even if I'd waited for him, I might have just led him astray!
All the same, I didn't see him at the finish. Do you know how he got on? Was he one of those who ended up at Patterdale or Fairfield? (if so: "Sorry Mike!")

Hi leafyes Mike ended up in Patterdale. You cant hang around for people in those conditions.I bet he wont make that mistake again ;-)

I don't think there are any, it's a relatively short race, though one of the hardest in the calendar! I suppose they could time you out at Grizedale Tarn, but I'm sure it wouldn't be particularly tight.Quote:

Actually, I know what they were doing up there (five mountain bikes and their non-riders on Swirral Edge): as I'd approached them I said: "Now why didn't I think of bringing my bike? How silly of me!" To which one of them sheepishly admitted: "We didn't mean to come up here. We took the wrong route!"
They were already quite a way up the Edge and I wondered if they'd carry on to the top as it wasn't very far. I wouldn't have fancied it though - scrambling up damp rock was OK with both hands free, but carrying a mountain bike?!
Like I said to a fellow runner: "I've always thought the term 'mountain bike' was a bit of an oxymoron. But maybe that's just 'cos I scare easily." "That's why you like fell running," came the reply - I didn't argue.

I was descending from Hart Crag into Deepdale to look at the waterfall below Erne Nest Crag when the clag on St Sunday Crag lifted around 1pm and I could see some runners approaching the checkpoint. Not for the first time this year I was envious of them :cool:
The best AM race in the calendar IMHO.

Not long after the start you run past a field on your left in which I have noticed campers & tents. Is this an official site? If so where is the access to it/site name - might look at sticking the van on there for race day so the little 'un has somewhere to run round..................
