I'm struggling a bit with this. My questions are:
- First leg runners should register the team and collect the baton before 07:45 from West Vale Car Pak, Stainland Road, nr. Halifax GR 080224.
- The race will start and finish near Clay House, North Dean Woods, West Vale, nr. Halifax
- The start and finish of the race is at West Vale, Stainland Road, nr. Halifax.
- The race will start nr. Clay House, West Vale, through North Dean Woods on the Calderdale Way. The finish is on Stainland Road, under the bridge to track on left up to Clay House.
Specifically I'm looking for clarification of:
- Where is "West Vale Car Park"? Stainland Road is mentioned, and the grid reference 080224 quoted. This is the same grid reference as that given for the start and finish of the race. I can't see any car park there on the map, and the only "Stainland Road" I can find is a couple of miles south of here, and runs between the B6113 and B6112.
- "Clay House" is not labelled on my OS Explorer map, so again I can't be certain exactly where it is.
- Where leg 1 runners park and register
- Where leg 1 runners start running from

OK, so Stainland Road in this context is the B6112 running north/south. There is another Stainland Road a couple of miles west of here which I think we can dismiss.Quote:

I note West Vale is south east of the old start at the Rugby Club, Copley so it looks like leg 1 is therefore about half a mile longer than it used to be. The finish to Leg 6 is different, but about the same distance as before.

The answer is
097212 on the OL21 is the refs for the carpark. The Clay House building is about 150 yards away in a small park.

Isn't West Vale the usual leg1 car park? Stagger's GR seems right.
I agree this looks like the car park, just want the organisers to confirm this, and dismiss the rogue "080224" grid ref quoted 3 times in the blurb, which is nowhere near.Quote:

Assuming you are running south down Stainland Road, and the bridge mentioned is the railway bridge at 098218, then you should turn right (west) not left, onto the track up to the finish.

as a newcomer to the Calderdale Way, I was just wondering if anyone knows the approximate amount of climbing on each leg. Looking at the map, Todmorden to Blackshaw Head looks to have a fair bit of climbing, and possibly legs 2 and 4 as well?

do not be tempted to use the short cut as you come off the fell,near height farm,(about a mile before jerusalem)there is a big yellow arrowpointing left on wall,(high house lane)this is not for you,you go right then left,you will see the little cw on the wall.
the short cut saves about 30 seconds but its wrong and you will be deducted time at the finish.plus its not fair on those who go the right way.
a local club did this to about 4 teams last year gaining an unfair advantage,i thought a fight was going to break out.
they were deducted time and caused a lot of bad feeling when it was not wanted.
