"But if they were "bright" would they be doing 100 miles?
Oxymoron there somewhere!"
If they are readers of this forum then surely there is an
oxy-oxymoron somewhere? :) I don't know, I just don't know.
The LDWA membership and events along with FRA events etc still continue to be the best value. Compare any to the hideously expensive Great North Run (£42) and it's an easy decision for me.
On the thoughts of any 'Ultra' event, Dean Karnazes and Don Allison (A Step Beyond; A definitive guide to ultrarunning) give some good insight into reasons for attempting the 'very hard' but i suppose we are all individuals and all have our motivations. Sometimes it's just a bloody good laugh !!
Re Scarborough Rock , just had my confirmation and no route details there, register from 7am at Scalby Parish Hall. Mass start at 8.30
SCALBY PARISH HALL IS LOCATED ON THE A171 BETWEEN SCARBOROUGH AND BURNISTION. PARKING IS IN THE HALL CAR PARK OR SURROUNDING STREETS.
I thought I'd see how much for the manchester run yesterday, for laugh, £32. It'll cost me £8 for the two crosses and it's three times the distance, doing the short route, and 100 times the fun!
Anyone know if the Rombalds stride is full yet?
Cheeers
Tyke.
It wasn't full as of Saturday - but filling up fast
ooo Cheers Brett , i hope not , sent mine off last week.
Hello, I'm quite an irregular poster on here but I noticed Scarbroough Rock and Rombalds mentioned.
I recce'd Rombalds in two halves this weekend past and one before. Nice that they've removed the circuit of Chevin near end (after the hard climb up) and the extra miles on Rombalds moor will be nice if the weather isn't too hideous. May be slightly longer overall too.
Does anybody have any details of Scarborough Rock apart from confirmation they're in?
Hi drunkeneuphoria , if you let me know your email i'll fwd on the entry form which has the checkpoints.
I'll type it.

Cheers Alf, much appreciated. I entered with one of those universal forms so not seen any checkpoint info till now. Hopefully should be a good one. I was up near Broxa at langdale end for a XC before christmas, lovely area.
Pleasure drunken . Have a good one yourself.
As a side note i've got my Rombalds number back and i'm 400 something, not sure of the limit, doesn't say in Strider.
Beacon Bash 22 Feb, i've now managed to get a route map, let me know if anyone wants a copy? Anyone got one for the Myrtle Meander?
Hi Chris,
Does that mean I don't need to plot one out on Tracklogs for you now? Does your map include the different route to the finish that avoids the main road?

Hi Nick
the route i've found (on the web) is dated 2007 and so wont have any changes since then. I would appreciate just that change if you have time? Thanks Nick
Re Scarborough Rock , has anyone seen any results anywhere?
Alf, I've not seen them, wouldn't mind a look myself, I'll keep an eye out. How'd yours go? I enjoyed it though tired by end as thats longest I've been on feet for a while.
Aye Drunken , i enjoyed it too. I'm getting back to some sort of fitness so i wasn't expecting to be fit. Good food at the end thou!
Great time Drunken, if you are same person on Fetcheveryone. I sem to remember that the results will be emailed or mailed out.
That is me on Fetch, cheers Alf, think I may have aggravated a hamstring doing it so having a few days off. Looking forward to Rombalds, will be nice to know the way there but the long moorland section (longer this year), rocky valley and the chevin probably make it that bit tougher than the Rock. Last Saturdays conditions on the day would be ideal.
Then after that will be Trollers Trot for me, which was my favourite event last year. Great route yet mostly very runnable for off-road.
Is anyone doing the Wilmot Wander around Derby this coming Sunday? Or if you've done it what's it like, never done it before and torn between this or a short run round on the Tigger Tor.
I did the Wilmot Wander last year. I don't recall an awful lot about it other than that the start hall is well hidden, and the last 8miles or so are along the river then the route of the old canal, so dead flat. I don't recall it being desparately hilly or particularly outstanding, but a good enough run out if you're looking for a long one.
Sorry. Sounds like 'damned with feint praise' and it deserves better than that. Look out for the Starkholmes Stagger on 21st March - organised by the same group as a one-off revival of what is (I'm told) a superb route.
Nice one Drunken, i too am doing Rombalds. I was going to do Trollers but a mate convinced me to do the Grindleford Gallop instead. Good luck for both.
I was going to do the Trollers, done it about 3 times now and really enjoyed it but it clashes with the Haworth Hobble/Wuthering Hike. Another ldwa event that was popular with runners and is now back again, is Blubberhouse 25 on 5 April - i would recomend it, lovely area and very runable
Cheers Chris.
I thought the Trollers and the Hobble were both Saturday 14th March:confused:

http://www.kcac.co.uk/?page_id=199
They are both on the Saturday
Oops I had the wrong date down for Wuthering Hike, had hoped to do that and Trollers. Some hasty rearranging of events and I think I'll now be doing the Wye Ultra as my short counter in the Vasque rather than the Hobble, and still be able to do Trollers :)
Um, looking again at the Vasque, Wuthering Hike is short and 33miles, but Marlborough Downs is medium and 33 miles...:confused:
Oh drat! That's my plans up the swanny! Was going to do both. Looks like I will have to wait until the following weekend to be a nutter!
Ooops - not the weekend after - it's the weekend before
Has anyone got the results from The Scarborough Rock?
I've emailed them but no luck.
Alf, no results here either, I'll see if I can get any through my club as some are members of LDWA I believe.
