Could I ask all you good cyclists if you think 6 days consecutive riding with daily mileages between 80 and 130 miles (most over 100) is feasible for a very occasional cyclist? Oh, and it will be hilly!

So circa 6 hours a day? 1 long stint, 2 with a break? 3 sessions of 2 hours?
..er, little matter of the self styled "Tour De Galles". No major running for me this year as I am a gimp, but I will be able to cycle. Approx 630 miles in 6 days over the best roads and hills that Wales can offer:eek:
Reckon that on the level of cycling I was before my crash it is on, Wheeze just needs some hard hours in the saddle, toughen up his bum and all that:D:D
Not sure my cycling is up to it! Plus I have just bought a new stead so no point there?
Although I can buy on cycle to work scheme now!
Ohhh, I like the idea, can I join you guys for some of it? And when is this Tour of Wales planned for?
I reckon you should be ok Wheeze, as long as you put in some long rides beforehand, the pace isn't too high and don't mind a sore bum :D
Oh and did 60 kms on the track this morning, just to stay on topic... Turbo tonight...
I am in the process of deciding what to buy, steed wise...
I need a full carbon road bike and I am also in need of a track bike...
A club member has this bike for sale, very nice if you are 6' ish. He is also selling a pair of Mavic Carbone Cosmics (700c), 3 years old for <£400 with Campag cass body and spare Shimano body.
I also understand another member is selling his C40 with Campy record for £1800
Speciialized S works Bike E5 Aerotec frameset size 58 cm [compact]
Full Campagnolo record carbon groupset [2007]
Bontrager/FSA bars/stem, flite tit seat.
Camapagnolo Zonda wheels, with Michelin pro tyres.
This bike has only done around 300-400 miles, and is in immaculate condition.
would cost £1550 to build. £1200 ono
Just thought I would let you know in case it is of use.
Thanks for that Ady... could be of use indeed, although I am a Shimano person :)
I am 5'9 3/4'' and have a 56 specilised cross bike, so this may be just a size too large, but worth checking out at that price... I will need the rest of the sizes of the frame to see if it would work with the saddle lower...
Can you pm me his e-mail?
Just done some Googling... I reckon the bike will be too large for me, as well as actually being alloy rather than carbon... I have a nice alloy racing bike already and am looking to step up from that...
Thanks anyway :)
Not bad actually... I am new to cyclo-x though and was very unlucky, to the extent that I bought the bike, had a couple of goes on it up and down some hills here, then fell fell running and dislocated my shoulder. Just when that was better and I could start racing, I ripped my ankle ligaments to shreds at the OMM... so never raced it and hardly ridden it, but I love its handling and it isn't that heavy. It looks heavier than it is... Seemed like a good, soldi beginners bike for me, just wanting a bit of a play at cross...
I have been looking at the Planet x crossers, but the spesh seems quite cheap! Just got my OMM entry in so maybe i should be spending money on a light tent!
I have a light tent :) and am waiting for confirmation from my partner if he wants to do the OMM...
Having said that, I like the crosser. I have never taken to MTB's and this one takes me more or less everywhere an MTB would... thinking of doing a couple of off road tri's on it this summer...
Off road triathlon, hmmm. I fancy a crack at the three peaks cyclocross.
Ady has he sold the cosmic carbones yet ???????
PM'd ya Daz
You do know it's a very different course?
You need that Planet X Uncle John now!
I realise it's very different, just thought i would see if the area gave me happy feelings. I need a light weight tent, kamleika smock, A lighter down bag And a lighter stove! I really, really, REALLY want the Uncle John! ( Need-want-want-need)
It's a fantastic area. I'd run there every day if it wasn't for the 250ish mile round trip!
Skennaugh we should set up a mad cyclocross race of our own over here.
The cross check is a bit heavy (lovely though). When i get my Uncle John, you will know.
1st July, have a look round the website if you haven't already;)

12 muddy miles around the fields and tracks near me. - Thick it was cylco-cross?
Quads went jelly after only 3 miles but they soon recovered and i began to really enjoy it and got totally caked in mud - at one stage my back wheel wouldnt go round because of the mud built up.
Had a few dodgy moments but didnt have a fall.
Was good to be out as i havent done much physical in a while, total lightweight compared to most that post on this thread but its was hard but ace!
Took a few pics, and had to get off an push e few times because i couldnt get and grip and my wheel was just spinning round.

Crappy dirty roads - yuk. 50 this morning +1 puncture, 70 the other day (miles not punctures). Roll on the sunshine, shorts and Oakleys.
did 17 miles last saturday, first ride for over 9 months
did 22 this morning in 1 hour 45 minutes, enjoying cycling again, going to keep building it up to supplement my running
Went out on the Time Trial bike this afternoon. I thought i would just do 10 miles to see if it was still working as i hav'nt touched it since the end of last years season. Ended up doing 44 miles with a huge grin! Makes a huge difference from the steel winter bike.
Well done you lot
going to go out tomorrow
50miles hopefully:)
A brisk 70 miles this morning including 50 minutes of through and off into the wind which really started to hurt when the group thinned out to 4. Enjoyed the pain though. Just done a packet of malted milk biscuite with 2 brews
Ady, if it is the group i see....you come past my house on your route.
I didnt see them all today but last thursday i missed my bus and whilst turning round to walk up my drive i heard all this shouting and then the bikes went wizzing past - do you really need to talk that loud.:D
Most likely Preston CC or Clevelys RC. We don't get near Preston. If they are talking then they are not working hard enough!
