Today's poet

Liking the haiku DT or am I going to have to say senryu...a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I am not a morning person and should not stay up reading into the wee hours when I have to get up prompt to work. Can't believe my first race of the year will mean a 6am start on Sunday!

Morning Glory

Disturbed by the alarm
Dishevelled I rise
Disjointed my thoughts
Disconnected I feel
Disgruntled seek coffee
Dismayed - no bread
Disappointed its raining
Disillusioned by news
Disarmed by the caffeine
Distanced from sleep
Dissipating grumpiness
Dissolving the aches
Discipline regained
Discovered motivation
Displaying good intentions.

Muse Gone.

Sitting here looking at the empty page,
Devoid of inspiration ,
I fly into a phonological rage,
Take out my frustration.

Syllable by syllable and word by word,
My muse disappeared,
Struggling for my writing to be heard,
No meaning in my poems it's worse than i feared.

Well mate it's time for a new approach, firstly excuse my damned impertinenece of offering advice. Anyway may I suggest that you try a spot of automatic writing, write the first things that come into your mind and just write them down do this for five minutes and then circle or highlight any interesting phrases so on and so forth. You could then you use that phrase as the basis or start point of a poem or you could retry the auto writing on that one subject matter have a go, go on, go on, go on:)

Thanks Freckle for your kind words. I nearly lost my friend 2 years ago to double pneumonia, she was in hospital for several weeks in a coma on special care. The medics reckoned that it was only because she was a very fit runner/climber that she survived - so there's a lesson for us all!!:)

Isn't it weird how, counter-intuitively, out of the depths of desperation and poet's block, sometimes inspiration can be found - well done. Herkie:)

The Sunlight on the Garden

The sunlight on the garden
Hardens and grows cold,
We cannot cage the minute
Within its nets of gold;
When all is told
We cannot beg for pardon.

Our freedom as free lances
Advances towards its end;
The earth compels, upon it
Sonnets and birds descend;
And soon, my friend,
We shall have no time for dances.

The sky was good for flying
Defying the church bells
And every evil iron
Siren and what it tells:
The earth compels,
We are dying, Egypt, dying

And not expecting pardon,
Hardened in heart anew,
But glad to have sat under
Thunder and rain with you,

well now that gener rectification is sorted I must say I really like Louis Macniece's poetry; honest and poignant

Heres a new one, i've become obsessed about inanimate objects being completely the opposite.

Old suitcase

I was found hiding in the attic
of a semi detached ex council house
behind a crumbling concrete wall.
My upper encrusted in a sediment of
brick dust and droppings of a mouse.

The stitching on my handle had
began to unravel from years of
massage and anxious contemplation in airports
and docks; "will I arrive at my destination"

Now a flat screwdriver was being shoved
between backplate and latch, but not
enough force to open. Eager to see my guts,
their prize I am smashed through.
What did you expect to find Nazi Gold,
Van Gogh sketches or the bones
and body parts of some poor tart.

My bowels emptied, displayed nothing
but woollen pullovers, knitting patterns and
old copies of Peoples Friend. Why was I left behind
abondoned. I had never opened up; improptu
and surprised onlookers standing in a ticket que.
I wish I was travelling with you, on the
carousel at JFK or Charles De Gaulle

Damned devilishly delectable, dearest dapper decent demure dependable diligent disciplined darling! :D
