The snow started just as I was coming off the moor. The flakes were tiny and light but also hard; they made a tinkling sound as they fell....which was nice.
I was very conscious of carrying an injury but at least it didn't seem to get any worse so I kept going and made it round in just over four and a half hours, a few minutes behind Socks who, having been nowhere in sight, unexpectedly shot out of a ginnel just before Otley Road and quickly disappeared into the distance.

Well, I followed an Ilkley Harrier over the up/conduit route and agree that it felt the better route, but I suppose it's all arbitrary now :) It started snowing as I was going through Menston and I was aware of the snow making that tinkling sound, a bit odd wasn't? I think it was because the air temperature was so cold, the flakes that fell later weren't doing it!

On the whole, I think I got away with it. I had my leg well strapped-up yesterday (tib. posterior tendon) and it was put on ice as soon as I got in. It doesn't feel any worse than before this morning, I must be on the mend!! :thumbup:

Jerry, the reason I said that was that another group had gone on ahead of me. I watched them ahead as I turned right at the top of the valley. I'd caught up with them at the pancake stone, where they pulled away again (permanently that time). I've just uploaded some pictures.

Good photos Nick. Wonder if the group who went down dithered around? You can lose a lot of time dithering!

Excellent photos Nick. This was my first time at Rombald's as I've never been organised enough to get my entry in in time. I'd heard lots of good things about it and it didn't disappoint. It was probably a bit too runnable for me, I prefer more hills so I can walk and eat but I was happy to get sub 4 hours. I can imagine what the moors would've been like had it not been frozen - a very boggy, muddy mess and very hard going so I think we were pretty lucky on Saturday. Thank you to all the LDWA marshals, you were brilliant as usual.

I am guessing you have shortish blonde hair and overtook me on the down hill into the finish and narrowly avoided getting knocked down by someone reversing out of their drive! I caught up a little bit on the final flat section, my calf had really had enough of down by then!

Nice to meet so many of you out there. Well done to Richard, Jezz, Fozzy and too many clubmates to mention. Unlike most of you I had a poor run. I turned my ankle quite early on and spent most of the time on my arse after that! It all became a bit of a get round in the end. Cheers for all the support on the way round. Think I'm fitter than my 3.33 suggests though.

On the exit from Rocky Valley debate. Clubmate Marc was five minutes ahead and was out of sight. I crossed the stream, took a right uphill and followed a straight line to the ridge. Some time later I was lying on the deck (again) when he came trotting past.

Yep, good to put some more faces to names. Fozzy, Donkey etc.
Very interesting over the moors this afternoon. Ran from Saltaire over Baildon Moors & picked up the Rombalds route from below Baildon Trig Point. There was ice, snow & bogs, which made it a lot slower running than on Saturday. Beautiful weather too !

You're right socks. There are so many variables that 30 seconds here or there mean nothing on these events. Add another 80 miles and we'd laugh in ridicule at such analysis.
