LDWA events

I'm sure there's a rip in the fabric of spacetime on Round Hill - follow the path from the top eastwards and you come to a bog. Plough through the bog and eventually a good path appears on your right. However, no matter how early I veer right before the bog, I always end up in it, and never find the start of this good path, if it in fact exists.

Re Blubberhouses - I'm kicking myself 'cause I missed out on it last year and said I'd do it this time around, but I'm going to miss it again. Looks a great route, definitely next year!

The path exists for sure, it's right at the end of the bog. Can't miss it.

I was reccying alone early one year wearing bog trotter wellies. Came to the stream in the middle of the bog (Stainforth Gill?). Someone had helpfully placed a large flat round stepping stone in the middle - just what I needed. Launched myself , plunged and sank into what turned out to be a disgusting cowpat of grey almost liquid mud. Wellies full, I really thought I was going to die right there. How I got out I'll never know.

Well, the Route Description is quite specific about taking the road down from and later up to, the start/finish at Bland Hill.

No Round Hill problems yesterday; mostly frozen solid, but even then a few detours were necessary. Must be a 'mare after heavy rain. :eek:

I did the Charnwood (trail) Marathon in Leics on Sat. Recommended, surprisingly hilly too! Did I mention I came 2nd ;) :D

How`s that work then in a NON COMPETITIVE LDWA event;)

Is anyone doing the Wensleydale Wander this year (25th April I think) or has done it in the past? If so any advice? Cheers

Some events in the LDWA Calendar have staggered starts and no results lists. They are indeed mainly non competitive, though self-congratulation on fast times naturally still occurs. All other such events are so competitive that cheating by walkers routinely takes place, even though there are normally no prizes or awards. There is an old-guard of LDWA that still WISHES events were non-competitive, but they are, I suspect, a dying breed - perhaps the same people who would like all running outlawed from events. Actually, if all competitive walkers and runners were outlawed, most events would become financially unviable.

Wensleydale Wander is on 17th April this year. Doing it for the first time this year but have been round the course. Its pretty easy going and quite low level, one medium-ish climb about halfway round. Great views and countryside/villages round the route. Dek

Thanks Dek, I am assuming it allows runners although at my pace no-one can tell the difference! My OH and I both need a 20-ish mile training run that weekend so would be perfect, just need to sort out a way to get there from Leeds by public transport, once I've done that will likely enter as I love the area. May see you there.
