Daft question on Three Peaks
Apologies if this has been asked before but here goes.
The Three Peaks website says:
"“completed at least two different Medium A, Long A or Long B Fell Races. Note – only FRA definitions apply.”
Does this mean two races of every category or two medium and one of long A and long B?
Can some one help??
Cheers
Lambert

Re: Daft question on Three Pea

three peaks 2011
Does anybody have any information on the date of the three peaks 2011? I have tried their website but to no avail. Is it always on a set date (ie 3 saturday in april) if so I can work it out, but am trying to do some advanced planning for next year.
Any help appreciated.

Three Peaks 2011 - entry query
I know the qualifying requirements for this race. Due to family/work issues, may only get 1 qualifying race done in 2010 and the next maybe mid February 2011. Website says entries close end march so at face value this should be fine, but in reality do entries fill sooner??
Thanks

Usually fills within days of opening.

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
I might be wrong, but I think it took a fair while to fill up last year. If I were you, I would send the entries secretary Bryan Speight an email to be sure. The address is on the website.

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
To be honest mate I know a guy who entered last year without doing any qualifying races but listed a couple of half marathon times and was accepted.

I've heard of that as well. It's really not a tough race, in terms of H&S risk anyway! It would be difficult to get lost (even for me, and i've practiced!) on the PPP motorway and there are tons of people around if you come a cropper. I'd class it as a trail race (did it in my flite230 this year, 'cos it was so dry) mostly, with very little grassy sections.
It does fill quickly, normally anyway. I wouldn't count on there being any places left by the last week in jan.
What qualifiers you looking at? Tour of Pendle is a good one; less running but much the same climb.

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
I'm always amazed when people say they're going to struggle to get qualifying races in for the 3 Peaks. There are some really, really easy races that give you the entry qualifiers.

My problem is I don't own a car, so really struggle to get to some of these races. I'll have to be-friend a fell runner in Chester or Lancaster!
Very useful thread as I'm in pretty much the same situation. I've just done the Whernside fell race last weekend which acts as a qualifier, and have a sub 90 min half marathon under my belt so if worst comes to worst and I don't manage to get another qualifier in then hopefully this'll be enough!

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
Thanks for the replies. I'm doing the Windgather BL in the peaks in a few weeks. After that I can do Guisborough 3 tops AM Nov 7th but clashing with a club xc race so divided loyalties. I did the Great North Run in 1.27 in 2009, maybe that'll stand to me with my fixture congestion. Probably will just have to let the club down just this once though to be on the safe side. By the way are Welsh FRA races accepted??

Can't see a reason why not, but again, it's one to check with Bryan Speight

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
I was in the same boat, having been overseas for a few years, so I included a letter with my entry form. Obviously it's easier if you can meet the qualifying races criteria. On the other hand the organiser has a duty to make sure he doesn't allow a complete novice and biff to take part for everyone's sake.
A couple of recent 20 mile road races might do, for example. The 3P isn't tricky for nav, but there are 3 demanding climbs, so it can easily take 30 to 40% longer than a road marathon, the race organiser needs to know you've a fair chance of finishing.
Yes, Welsh races count, of course.

Doing the Windgather myself as a qualifier and the Hope Moors and Tors 20 this Sunday as my other qualifier.
I'd email Bryan Speight the Entries Secretary. I asked him about entry, he got back to me the same day.

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
E-mailed Bryan Speight a few days ago, just waiting for his reply. As people have said, there are a few races available, just juggling with rest of my life so my own problem for not developing the 3 peaks hankering until late in the year...

I'd hate to be a race organiser; this kind of tedious whinging must really grind them down.
I don't think £18 is bad for this race at all. It's a lot more complex than most AL fell races, it's got decent drinks stations, bottle/food drops, lots of marshalling, traffic control, live chip timing, marquee, food voucher etc, etc.
The atmosphere was really good this year and i'll defo be back in 2011

They were all there in 2007 when it was £10 cheaper, but I guess that's inflation for you.

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
Hey there AndyA
Nice reply I have to say Andy, you can pay a lot more for a lot of other races that's for sure, as has been mentioned on this site, I thought £18 is not too bad for what you get etc, I'm on for it next year, will be my 1st Three Peeks race and it's sounding like a great one to do, emailed Bryan Speight the Three Peaks secretary regarding race qualifying requirements etc, replied the next day, done!, all I have to do now is apply when the entries are open and Bob's your uncle!!!:)

It was £20 in 2008 when it was the WMRA championship, it's now £18 and no surcharge for unattached runners. It's not back down to the 2007 level, but I reckon it's a fair price. Must get round to running it some time...

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
Here, here. My best race atmosphere from last year. A bargain at £18. I don't usually hang around after a race, but this year I listened to the band, watched a few runners stumble in & browsed the Pete Bland gear. Definitely back for some more next year.
-
Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
I'm so glad I don't have to do this again after getting my Target time for this. Lots of other races out there.
I'll still be walking it though 5 times a year leading charity walks...
-
Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
Cool, I'm getting pretty excited about it, may be need to get out more eh:)

Oops... Nearly forgot... I am duty bound to point out that it's not an AL. :sneaky:

Well done, Ian. I feel obliged to go back, I have a ghost to lay to rest.
As fell races go, it's pricy. As any other day out goes, it's a bargain. Monster marquee, live band, decent beer, carnival atmosphere, horrible, horrible race (but that was my fault).

Re: Three Peaks 2011 - entry q
Still cheaper than the 2 marathons I did this year ( White Peak and Fleetwood ) , and way cheaper than any city centre marathon.
After doing the qualifiers at Hope Moors and Windgather I'm certainly looking forward to the PPP. Whether I'll be thinking the same at the bottom of Ingleborough is debatable.
