Meulensteen has managed before: he managed to take Brondby from a perennial top 2 club to 7th.

Bit misleading there. He was only there for the first half of the season! Hardly enough time to judge his management credentials.

If he does go into football management, I'll bet him to be a success.
Rumour afoot, you'll be coming out to Z cars theme.:w00t:

Unless you have followed lower league football in the North West you've probably not heard of this guy but Oldham fans beware, looks like he could be heading your way

That's a classic swoopism well done for beating him to it? :D

Re: Tonight's football thread
This is a strange one.. Kinner was pretty much a failure there last time.. hasn't managed for years, was out dated then, so why bring him into a spot all about long term thinking...
I think Pardew was a decent appointment in the end, he's a decent manager, has bought well and I expected them to do well next season, top 10 anyhow..

Quite right Ian. Anything I could come up with now would just not be up to Pardew to Danbert's brilliance!

Seems to me that Baconface tested his character and it was found wanting, not rising to the competition from RVP

Juventus have agreed a fee with City for Tevez

He was happy to play second fiddle to Ronaldo..
I just think he had a bad season and struggled.
12 million is a good price by Juve.. I'd have thought more.

A shame that as I enjoyed watching him play in the Premier League. Juventus are in the Champions League though so no doubt we will see him on the telly.

Not sure.. a player who plays when he wanted to...
For Man U he picked his games.. only started playing well that season he left when he realised he needed a contract.. started numerous games that season to little effect before March time..
For City, had some poor spells, came but came good again after his time out when he needed fans onside.. then wasn't the same...
Class player when he wanted to be... it was why I rated Ronaldo so highly as even though he wanted to leave he was class.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Suarez can now talk to Arsenal... looks like that move will happen if Arsenal up to 50.. which as they have already offered 40 is plausible..
Time to kick this thread off again.. Bundesliga 2 is already up and running..
TBH I'd swap Rooney for Fabregas... if we can't get anyone in I'd keep him..

Barca won't.. they have neymar and messi..
But chelski want to land a blow by getting him.. he's 18 months older and in worse shape than Fab... very similar.. Fabs better deeper.. probably suits us more.. I love Rooney but he seems set he wants out..

Re: Tonight's football thread
Is this the end? Its not like you to be so optimistic United's dominance is coming to a crashing end...
We lost Ince.. it was all over..
We invested in youth.. it was all over..
We lost Cantona.. We'd never cope without him..
We then lost Schmeichel... we'll lose our drive..
We then lost Keane.. it was all over..
We then lost Beckham and replaced him with a show boater in Ronaldo.. it was all over..
We lost RVN.. it was all over.. no goals..
We lost Ronaldo.. now for sure it was over...
Even if he goes I think we've shown we'll cope..
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
bored already, when does it end?
apparently Celtic had a "vital" game earlier this week, it was their second game!

Throughout all those times, they had Siralex.
Now it gets a little more interesting...
Leeds United linked to a sponsorship deal involving Red Bull, not sure if it's just names on shirts or the whole stadium naming and even club name, as they have done with other clubs abroad. More money to not spend on players.

We'll split the difference, he was the second best demented alcoholic manager, after Brian Clough. ;)

I have a feeling that's exactly what's going to happen. Not overnight, of course and not because Rooney could be leaving, but because Gollum just isn't up to the magnitude of the job. Tick Tock. :)

Re: Tonight's football thread
But when you've been saying this every year since 1995... you kind of lose your talent as a predictor.. of course one day it may happen.. but so far its been 20 guesses to 0 strikes...

Gollum looks like he has aged about 40 years since he took over!!
I can see an implosion. :w00t:

Re: Tonight's football thread
I know.. its just not like city to go out and spend 10's of millions on new players..
TBF at least this time its not just the name they have gone for.. we'll see..
Most open title for a good decade or so... Can't see anyone other than Utd, City or Chelsea though... Spurs and arsenal will challenge.. but can't see Liverpool being in it at all, and neither Everton...
We do need a midfielder though, too reliant on an aging Carrick... plus Scholes gone and Giggs must surely start to age..
