I just ordered a black one too, as there wasn't an orange one available :S
Well I went into work at 5am to cover for a foreman who is off.
Took my bike and stripped it down to give it a good clean. Forks out, seat post, pedals etc etc.
Hann have you taken your pedals off lately ?. With the amount of riding your doing they will get seized if you dont.
Adjusted my brakes as well.
Nice and easy when I can just shove my bike stand in the van and work on the bike.
Glad to report no oil thefts here. But we regulary get steel offcuts nicked.
Meant to ask the Bike thread forumites. Does anyone know whereby I can locate the new Bianchi book that has come out. Someone was telling me about this down here but I cannot find it and I want it. I need to have it in my collection.

Is this Hann off to another race ???
while on my be- slicked commuting mountain bike, on my way to pilates at accelerate last night - i dropped down a grassy bank between two paths - as I usually do. What wasn't usual was the big new rut in the grass, which greedily snatched my front wheel from under me and deposited me, "you've been framed" style, on my head on the lower concrete path...oops.
I now have a very cracked helmet and a burgeoning black eye from the deferred impact (round the eye socket) - if i hadn't had my lid on i'd have a very flat head!!
Bike was miraculously unscathed apart from wonky mud guard. pilates classmates came out to meet me as i cycled gingerly towards the shop (thanks guys). stuart was on hand to administer tea and ice pack (fortunately i managed to disuade him from donning nurses outfit). now have a grazed palm, bruised knee and sholder and black eye. I have to remind myself that real cyclists ride whole stages of the tour de france with broken collar bones. What's your worst bike related injury?
Last time I went over the handle bars i broke my collar bone and shoulder blade (not really done any mountain biking since) so this was a bit of an improvement.
Oh Ratfink, doesn't sound too good! Glad you got away relatively unscathed...
Maybe I should wear a helmet more often.... makes me think this...
Daz, love that picture of the orange bike :)
No idea about the Bianchi book, I want it too now... will let you know if I find out more! Oh and my pedals are greased when put on and they do get removed with a certain regularity when the bike goes in a bikebox, so none of them are seized... well, haven't checked the crosser...
Do you mean this one Daz?

Thanks Han
Its totally personal (i don't always wear one rock climbing) - but with my bike i always ,think well i've got one, may as well put it on. If you're doing a hot ascent you can always put it on your bars, and you can get nicely vented ones these days. won't help if you get flattened by a bus, but mighty handy for any contact with road or curb (which can happen in quite a lot of ways!).
try it slightly less tight. mine is only snuggish, and i don't have the chin strap very tight - but it seems to stay in place - need a new one now. shell is intact just scratched, but the polystyrene is cracked right through.
do you have to wear one for most races nowadays?? think of it as training getting used to it :)
edit: i am sitting icing my eyesocket with frozen peas at work , and not lying in a hospital!
Another 20 miles in the bag.. Nice day, but still a bit windy.
AUCH re eyesocket :( Hope the ice is doing it's trick... at least you are not in hospital!
I don't wear the helmet tight at all... but funnily enough, every helmet I have (3 now, including a point hat for TT-ing) makes a whopping great big dent in my forehead, which causes the discomfort, even though the helmet is fairly loose on my head... I am flummoxed as to why...
And yes, you wear one for races, that is why I actually do wear one with a certain regularity... But as of yet, you don't need one for TT's... But it is getting there.
i wear one for time trials but i have to say it is under duress and really so i set a good example to the youngsters. i dont bother out training but this probably stems from the useless leather strap things they called helmets when I was road racing in the 80's. they have moved on a bit. i wouldn't mind a nice fast looking pointy one but they seem very expensive
anyway Milnthorpe 10 again tomorrow night (with non pointy helmet!!!)
You do know it's in Italian???
http://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp?ID=2695
Ah, that is cheaper than ordering it from Italy, where they charged 16 euro's postage :)
You sure you have the correct size
My specialized one is perfect. Cant you pad the front out a bit.
Are you wearing it without a peaked cap. Try using a cap. An old trick is to just stitch a very thin piece of foam into your cap just to pad it a bit.
You sure be able to wear it tight then.
Daz, short of getting a kids helemt, which isn't race legal for me, I can't get a smaller size :( I have a really small head and the small Giro is on the large side... I think maybe that is the problem, rather than it being tight... I shall try wearing it with a buff underneath to provide some padding and see how I go... Tried it with a cap, but my ponytail gets in the way then...
are you resting your head on your stem? :P
21.6 miles, 2600 feet, very cold toes (very wussy on descending)
29.07 at a breezy Milnthorpe 10 so gone backwards a bit tonight.
off to Turkey saturday so a rest for a week
I've the small giro atmos too and as daft as it sounds it makes a difference where the pony tail band is. I don't know about you but my hair is ridiculously thick and the helmet doesn't sit right unless I wear a buff under it and either have a very loose ponytail so the band is at the nape of my neck or leave it loose but that's not a good look!! A bit of extra padding is good on the front too, did you get a spare/replacement bit when you bought it, I added it to the padding already inside and that helped.
Jo, nasty bump hope you're ok.
As an aside.....been trying to get on the thread, the updates in the day said Hann had posted last, then Ratfink but everytime I tried to access the thread the last post I could see was the last one Daz posted this morning, I couldn't 'see' anything else...... BRETT, what's that all about???
i normally have my ponytail lower than my bike helmet cradle thing - but have found with some helmets (climbing and canoeing) having your hair in plait(s) makes it lie much flatter under the helmet.
Take care ratfink, no more nasty bumps, hope you've recovered. Ponytails and plaits have never been a problem in my helmet!
Been doing more cycling than running recently, nearly a 100 hilly miles clocked since saturday on singlespeed cross bike.
Forgot how much i love the bike.
I had exaclty the same problem re posting!!!
Interesting what you say about the small atmos, padding and ponytail... I have my ponytail sticking out above the strap/click fasterner thing at the back, maybe I should drop it down. Am going to try the buff approach next time... Thing is, I have the same problem with my old helmet (also a Giro) and with my new TT helmet :S
Anyways, back to my bikeriding: Had an excellent session on the track this morning, pb-ing in both the flying 500 TT and the 5m TT :) Also practised standing starts again and getting better at that too! Now entered the European Masters Track CHamps and ordered a Dutch skinsuit... Oh the excitement :)
Sorry to here about your fall ratfink but shows the value of a helmet doesnt it.
WOOHOOOOOOOO!
10 mile TT last night... and I pb-ed by 1min1sec! 25.32 now, I am well happy, sub 25 next :)
And that fater two hard session on Wednesday morning and evening!
Track later today... I wonder where my legs will be lol!
This may have been mentioned earlier, but did people see this

In my pitiful attempts to get back into cycling last year I went out on the local club run a couple of times when Hannah was present, she was getting ready to move to Belgium and was really looking forward to going, I hope she recovers ok.
I switched on the TV fully intending to watch the Giro but then I couldn't bring myself to watch it. I kept thinking who is doped, who is not doped? In the end I switched it off. Never done that before. I think it's a defining moment in my TV viewing career.
Auntie - i'd seen about that accident on the bbc website :-(
today's ride - 44miles, 4400feet says garmin (47000 feet says bikehike - who knows) - 3:40 so a bit under 12mph - build up starts here - ulp.
25 miles, 1,700'. Most of that seems to be in two bits of the route!

where did you go dominion?
can you see my plot here? http://connect.garmin.com/activity/33313634
35miles, climb, climb, climb. Cols Roc Blanche and Blaenlechau nailed in reasonable order!
I went here,

or here????
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/33370811
I'd given up on Garmin during the mess they created when they switched from to Garmin Connect. Looking at yours it looks like they've got their act together. The first one is an export from SportTracks software to my own website.
The ongoing battle with all of this stuff is that the ascent / descent is completely random. The 1700' quoted above is based on importing into digital OS maps (Tracklogs). Garmin quotes 1295', Sport tracks quotes 1'124 - or 1044 'corrected'. I'm inclined to believe the OS reading.
i like your detour up to wern y cum!
bikehike gives your route 1500feet (swings and round abouts :-) )
i would have believed you if you said you were doing the extra climb on purpose - i met some guys today doing reps on winnats??!1?
always better to go wrong up hill then the correction is down hill.
unlike my navigational error today when i rode past the aston turning and had to ride back up to it :)
