Most open title for a good decade or so... Can't see anyone other than Utd, City or Chelsea though... Spurs and arsenal will challenge.. but can't see Liverpool being in it at all, and neither Everton...
We do need a midfielder though, too reliant on an aging Carrick... plus Scholes gone and Giggs must surely start to age..
Midfield reinforcements are absolutely paramount for you lot. Seems to me like you need to be careful in chasing the impossible you don't lose out on the possible. My money says you'll end up with Baines and Fellaini

From what I've seen, and to which my season ticket holding bitter neighbour agrees, I hope you're not including Ferdandinho in your thinking above.
Got Premier League failure written all over him

Jovetic is our man. His signing is more special than the others. I reckon he should be a "massive" upgrade on Tevez and Mario. Similarly Navas looks like a class act.
I'd actually have had Fellaini over Fernandinho myself.

Navas will be your main man this season. Gives you something you've been lacking in recent seasons

But what about you lot? Giggs 1 year older, Scholes gone, Rio, Vidic, Evra all older..De Gea, will be awful, the World will see it. After every game, every mistake we won't have to listen to how good De Gea had been off Baconface.
RVP, was starting to tire last season, looked poor towards the end of the season. Rooney has been one of United's best and most consistent players for years, he wants out.
Gollum will not hold a candle to Slur Alec, the media will jump down his throat at every opportunity and unless he is walking the league and looking good in the Champions league, groans will start to materialise from the ungrateful, arrogant, expectant swamp dwellers. Gollum and to a lesser extent Mourinho have the weight of expectation on their backs, far greater than Pellegrini.
Mourinho's own fans will expect instant success, the media will demand it, you can only be the 'special one' and the media darling if you're winning. His squad is far weaker than when he was last there.
I don't think Mourinho will have it anywhere near as easy with his own fans, or the media as he did last time. He has a lot to prove, he mainly failed in Spain, and has returned to take Chelsea back to the top. He has put himself under immense pressure, with a squad nowhere near as strong as before. It's alright being the 'special one' but it does help if you have by far the best squad..
I think we have improved everywhere on the pitch. I think the players as a collective will be much happier than they were, they are all in their peak years, Barry asides. Pellegrini is supposed to get the best out of his players, be a very astute tactician and a great motivator. If this is true, he should be able to get more out of a better squad than the one that won the league just 14 months ago.
We have lost Tevez and Balotelli but added 4 quality and much needed players.
If you can't tell, I think we should win the league this year, I think our fixtures have been kind, and we will have time to bed in the new signings before the big games. Our new players and management will have time to adjust and looking at the fixtures we could have a decent lead after the first 6-10 games. It will be good to bring the League back to Manchester.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Let's face it Danbert, we won it at a canter last season with a young squad.
We need one decent midfielder and we'll be there or thereabouts. I don't expect City to be in the top 2 this season; I think the appointment of an untested (in the Premier League) manager in Pellegrini is a risky tactic.
I have a gut feeling that Chelsea will take it this year, followed by Utd.
Unlike City and Chelsea, however, we recognise the importance of stability so Moyes will be given breathing room by the only people that matter, the fans.

Last year you over-performed because you played like a team, we under-performed because we didn't and at times deserved some of the criticism we got for being a team of highly paid individuals. This season that situation will reverse itself ;)

Yeah RVP was awful... that game against Villa at the end of the season.. was he even playing?
Balotelli was a huge mistake...
You've waxed lyrical about a man you don't even know.. simple facts are Pelligrini doesn't have a superb CV... Mancini's was certainly more impressive...
De Gea.. superb last season.. it was Hart who had the dodgy season..

In reality you lot have grown too big under bacon face to ever crash as badly as Liverpool have. There is too much money going into the Swamp and despite the interest payments and Uncle Malc's fingers in the pie you still make huge profits. So unfortunately there is no chance of you sinking in the same fashion you did after Busby retired but I can't see you much higher than 3rd or 4th in the Premier League under Gollum and as for your chances in the Champions League, forget it.:w00t:

Re: Tonight's football thread
Its a different situation though.. we have constantly tried to evolve.. Liverpool stopped doing that and were then unlucky.. they had their down spell just as the league started and United got on board at the right time... but Sheffield Wednesday also did yet operated on a short term basis and are now gone...
Liverpool let their team age.. we don't, we do take gambles, letting players go just at their peak, but we don't let the core age (like we did under Busby too - too much loyalty to the older players who won the EC). People question the ability of Smalling, Jones, Cleverly, De Gea, the twins, Welbeck, Evans et al.. but it means we have a core young element in the team all the time.
I think we're too powerful too, the sort of Money United, City and Chelsea have mean that they can take 1-2 years off the top and be OK, like we did the mid 2000's... Lievrpool and Spurs can't..
Liverpool are still making 10's of millions pounds losses each year.. and have something that is forgotton. We have 366 million debt.. yet make millions a yeah, Liverpool have 87 million debt yet lose millions a year... I know which I'd prefer.. United have one of the lowest wages as a % of turnover in the league, 51%.. I know we now say we're a football club but I hope they don't forget the cold hard business model which has formed our spine.. without that we wouldn't have dominated for nearly 25 years.

I am looking forward to watching the new City line up this season. It will be interesting to see how they all fit in and how Pelligrini plays them.

Yeah, won't get far relying on Brown, Norris and Tonge. Think BMD might be the best man for the job, but getting the bunch into the playoffs in such a tough league will be a tall order.

Re: Tonight's football thread
I thought Negredo looked a good signing for City in yesterday's Asia Trophy final match. He looked like an old fashioned centre forward especially on that old fashioned muddy pitch :D He definitely won't fade in the winter.

A great set of supporters  It's good to see they have priced their season tickets reasonably as well .
I am hoping for their away supporters to spread the wealth round the division :D

£35m for Baines and Fellaini is this mornings strong rumour.
This would be good business I think. Weakening one of your rivals for 4th spot isn't a bad idea.
You should also look to take a player or two from your other rivals like Swansea.;)

It's bloody ridiculous isn't it? Both Hull rugby league clubs resisted the change to those ridiculous American style names like 'Chicago Bears' and 'Trafford Tits' and their fans take the piss out of other clubs for the changes they have made.
Seriously, Hull FC and Hull KR are some of the only RL clubs who don't have a silly animal or whatever as part of their name. There's Saint Helens too and Warrington fans never wanted to change to "Wolves" because they already had the nickname "The Wire" which fans still use today, but the change was made. Madness.

Incidentally I've just seen Woodward at Chorlton Street bus station boarding an express to Liverpool ..... the signing of Leon Osman is back on if he can be guaranteed first team football, which I'm sure he can. :w00t:

Other clubs can only be forced to follow suit, otherwise all the cool-sounding animals will have been taken by the time it becomes commonplace. Imagine if your club was a late adopter and you had to follow the slugs or the sloths. There are so many football clubs in the UK, you could end up with some pretty obscure animals. Fans would have to develop chants to explain things about their animal.

I've given this some thought Noel and I can't make my mind up which would best suit our noisy, bitter neighbours, either; The Stretford Shite-hawks, The Chester Road Cheetahs or quite simply the Warwick Road W*nkers:w00t:
