yes infact sponsored by tesco and daleside breweries - anyway - sorry for trashing the thread on this tangent - I'm looking forward to the race tomorrow - kind of - it was a really nice warm day topday - so hope tomorrow will be similar - it looks quite open and exposed on the map and i will definatly be taking a map with me as I feel I somehow may be at the back by myself - i dont want to get lost on the moor by myself - is the race actually in yorkshire or lancashire?:eek:

I seem to remember doing a similar race last century. Turn around at Stoodley Pike (?), and a run back into especially ordered gale force winds. I was so cold at the end I couldn't even finish my stubby of lager.

I was on the hills opposite and the head wind was very strong. Running west was very hard work but I neraly flew going east!
Well the chip butty and soup were very welcome. I enjoyed the race in some masochistic way, head down into the gritted teeth of the wind. It was nice to be on the fells again, and any more climb would have killed me. This was definitely a fell race, and given the time of year and exposure it's always likely to be. Thanks to Stringman for organising it, and his hardy breed of marshals for standing there.
It seemed to be a forumathon today. Coach Clamp kindly blew up at the end and I sneaked past him. It seems that I've been bumping into Wirey Manc for a few years and didn't realise it. Swoop, Breeze, Chris, AP, Daz H, Dominion shouting "come on fat boy" or something, and JJ ensconced in the pub (obviously). All in all, a good day had by all.
A fine bracing morning up on t'moors. Fortunately the cloud level was high enough to let us see where we were going. Just as well because that area was all new to me. The wind was the biggest enemy today and made it a hard struggle for a lot of the race.
I'd just like to echo Pudgy's comments about the race organisation, hats off to Stringman and team. Good to see plenty of forum folk there. Now, after being on the receiving end of a good hiding from Pudgy for the second time in as many days, I've just got to figure out how to get in front of him next time.
I was another forumite there today - I was the one wearing the silly hat with sheep on (I mistakenly thought it was part of the official Calder Valley kit).
Really enjoyed the race, and especially the fact that so much of the course was runnable. I'm used to most routes up there being lumpier. Generally, I lurch about falling over at irregular but frequent intervals, living up to my forum name.
The wind was certainly a bit gusty - it looked like the tide was coming in on the far side of White Holme Reservoir. Nevertheless, it was a particularly fine morning of muck and heavy breathing, and I managed to get round with both ankles intact, which is always a bonus.
Well done Stringman.
BTW, I'm afraid I've trashed another of your nice plastic numbers - the wind ripped my safety pins through the holes and I had to perform emergency repairs en route. Wish I'd been carrying an industrial stapler.
Ran the race today & just got home after visiting family- I'm cream crackered!! Despite the "banter" on the forum b4 the race, it really was quite tough (& fast) mostly due to the wind and wet bogs everywhere! having read edam's pre-race posts I hope he/she enjoyed the race today as much as I did, big thanks again to Allan, Linda & Co. for organising/marshalling. If it's on next year, highly reccommended alternative to standing in front of an industrial sized hair dryer....
