I am not in a running club. When orienteering I run for SPOOK, the Sheffield Uni/Poly Old Boys club (hence the forum name).
Don't tend to race much so haven't joined a club. Saying that I am doing Edale this year (the last time I ran Edale was 1985!).
BGR is my aim for 2010. 26th June going anti-clockwise starting at 4am.
Thanks again MM for the route etc.
Damn fine time that 'Spookster'
I doubt I'd come within an hour of it:confused:
Steve R (Helsby), Chris A (unattached) on Sat 19th - 3h24'. I'd have maybe gone a bit faster if it stopped raining for more than 10 minutes. Chris would have gone a lot faster without dragging me round :)
Thought beforehand that route-finding might be more of a nuisance - I was struggling to plot the thing on the map the night before, but the written instructions were actually really good and made sense on the ground. Didn't need the map much.
One mistake coming off Stoodley Pike, following a bearing in the mist we went too far and missed the head of Broadhead Valley, coming down via Bell House and FPs to rejoin route at Nature signboard further down.

Though I did start from checkpoint 1 Old Town Mill, this was because traffic was so slow and heavy coming from Oxenhope to Hebden I did not think I would have enough time to complete the full round if I had carried on to Mytholmroyd. Not sure if this makes the round easier, certainly the pull to the finish whilst watching the watch was tough. I had recced this and only lost about 3 mins to getting lost, wrong lines and trying to cross roads with streams of traffic, especially the Hebden rd. I also did run to the white lion and retraced my steps to bridge 12.
Split times are also a bit erratic as my pen stopped working and I realised a bit too late I could use my garmin to record splits.

quite pleased overall as I felt rough at the start and was just doing it as a training run round. Next time will be a bit more focused and will also bring own lollipop lady.
just to add to this, may have gone wrong at Hardcastle crags as took the lower path by the river dodging dogs, kids and walkers on tricky (at times) terrain. Think I should have run through the car park and along the wide smoother faster track. Oh I didn't need to walk once.
Yes, I think you are right there is a lot more to come off. If I had known compo's time before I started and had put my mind to it when i realised I was going ok I reckon I could have beaten it just. So others who are much faster than me no doubt will shave quite a bit off.
