Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Don't be put off by the oddly placed dibbers though, its a great, challenging route!

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
not to mention the unmanned clip that it stated as being on a stile...
...which actually turns out to be on a kissing gate
heaven help you if you persist in looking for a stile!

Should be fresh as a daisy after that. Sorting my entry now, but should be there as recovered well from Lakeland 50.

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Hope I can find someone to follow/ run with. Just got back from GR20 so my legs are strong but possibly not very fast! It means I have had no chance for a recee just a bit of map gazing.
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Karen, I'd say follow me but I wouldn't want to trash your finishing time. ;)
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
It might be good for the first bit at least- my legs should be good for long slow days with mega ascents and lots of rock hopping but may not be upto much speed! Be good to see you anyhow

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Hello Everyone.
My name is Rob, I entered the long tour with my other-half but she cant run as she has hurt her knee. This means i have free place going if any ones wants it? It includes dibber and map. I dont want the money for it as I would lose that anyway.

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
I have decided to run this as a training run for the Bullock Smithy, I have recce'd the last 10 miles and have an idea of where to go for the beginning. Just wondered if it is the same route as 2010 as a friend has sent me the GPS of 2010 race to help me out (I am slightly navigationally challenged). Also, is there plenty of water en route? I am planning on taking 2 bottles to refill as I go around and some emergency money. Sadly I don't think I'll finish in time to get an ice cream from the shop :(
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Sarah, I'm not sure if the route is the same as 2010, but it's the same as 2011....so it might be!
Water - There is plenty, I managed with one bottle last year and it was hot, the route description is excellent and it also lists were the water points are: http://www.darkandwhite.co.uk/RunFur...B2012route.doc :) You may get an ice cream en route, there was an ice cream van at the CP at Upper Burbage Bridge..very temping!
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Thanks Helen, I'm hoping I won't be too slow and will have runners in sight. I've had a look at the route description, my friend is in charge of map reading and with the back up of a GPS we should be ok as long as we make the cut off!
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
do you want my free place?
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
I already have a place but thanks for the offer.
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
SarahB - you should be able to keep me in sight at least (I think our Kinder Trog times were similar this year)
the 5 hour cut-off is not a "gimme", but doable, and I'm aiming to reach it in about 4:30-4:40 - I'll be in purple Fell Ponies vest
Ice Cream Stops at: shops in Castleton, Edale & Bamford, plus van at Upper Burbage (hopefully) and there's nearly always a van on the road just off to the left over the footbridge (i.e.slightly off route) just before Lawrence Field

I had heard you were doing it Daz, feel free to join us if we are around and not too slow (!) - we will be the group with the map, route description, sat nav and ice cream money :)

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
I actually loved this race today, I accidentally ended up running a bit with Daz and it was nice to have a chat and thank you for helping me with the route. I'm sure you'll do a brilliant time at the BS.
It was really well organised, the marshalls were lovely and the flapjack was the best! I will be back to do it next year but will make sure I know my way then!
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Very much enjoyed today too :D Very well organised and well supported. The last few hours very a bit warm though! Lovely to see so many familiar faces along the way

Well Done on your run mate:thumbup:

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
first time for me on this one. Nice route (despite me cursing the steep descents in first half)
Thanks to those who kept me company and helped with the navigation.
Really well organised and great marshalls as always
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Never gets any easier good to see the choice of food had increased this at the check points and thx to the marshalls and soup was good at the finnish a final big thanks to who ever handed in polar footpod, thought it was rip somewhere on kinder. A butal event but cannot wait for next year

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
nice to meet SarahB & run with her until she got bored of my slow pace and raced off into the distance - Well Done on a sub-8!
ditto JimN a bit later
cracking times by euph and HelenS
good to see BritNick in Fell Ponies attire
[there now follws a copy & paste of my review on Runner's World site]
I went off far too quick (again), but justified it to myself by putting it down to being a lot fitter, plus it was cloudier early on so wanted to make the most of it
at one point I was on for about 8:07 and started to get giddy about threatening 8 hours... then reality started to kick in (and the sun came out) and after the dreaded flat bit before Leadmill my legs refused to cooperate anymore and even an 8:15 became impossible - Jim overtook me and I chugged in to 8:24 which I've gotta be happy with http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/...ile_smiley.gif
I drank HUGE amounts of liquid (energy drink and water with electrolyte tabs) and that seemed to keep the cramp at bay
weighed myself this morning and I am still 7 pounds down on yesterday http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/...sed_smiley.gif
summary: acceptable time, poor pacing
conclusion: 3rd time lucky for a sub-8... http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/...ink_smiley.gif

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Hmm. Drank so much I needed a loo stop before Bamford- unusual for me. Ate more than I usually do but not vast amounts. Ignored temptation of icecream van. Beer and meal last night. Now weigh normal!
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Daz - sorry for running off, found myself a good pace and kept with it, you were far from slow and what a fab time sub 8.30  You are well on for a good time with the BS! I really had to push it to make sub 8 and the ice cream shop was shut so after all that I never got an ice cream!

Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Great event, great route, will definitely do it again. Thanks to all the organisers and marshalls. It was tough, tougher than i expected in that heat, probably got a bit carried away and went off slightly to fast, went wrong with Will S and the Chapel boys, maybe an extra mile. Thanks to the Penistone boys and Amanda for help with the nav later when i had the brain power of a jelly fish. ( ie slightly up on normal....). Big congrats to Ian S, and Ant (your are a legend already) and Helen S on a great win and some pretty energetic vomiting. For Paul R it just wasnt tough enough and he started headbutting trees. Hope the head is better now Paul. great pint in that pub after. See you soon!
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Thanks Geoff - see you at the Bullock. Thanks also to Peter Barr of Retford AC who patched the wound up and Grandslammer, Michael Plummer for his reassurance. I'm very grateful. Great day out, on my feet much longer than anticipated but glad to have the miles on my legs. I met some interesting people who were training for longer events inc UTMB & the Dragon's Back, good luck folks....

I did that too!
just before Stoke Ford
looked like a nice leafy bower
harbouring a cosh-like low-hanging log of a branch :w00t:
impressive graze on my scalp to show for it
sounds like there's going to be a fair old reunion at Bullock Smithy

Daz, you 'hit the nail on the head' with that description. That tree caught me by surprise as well. It was painful enough at the time to require a stop and a 'rubbing better'. I still have the graze on my scalp too.
It was good to see loads of familiar faces there and a few new ones. Well done Daz for achieving your sub 8:30 target. This one never gets any easier; it's always a tough but enjoyable slog, so well done to the Lakeland 50/100-ers who turned out. Thanks to the organisers and marshals. I did detect a subtle improvement in provisions. The sandwiches were a first, from what I can recall. From the keenness of the marshals at the checkpoints I suspect it might get even better next year.

Go for it Daz! See you there. I'll be aiming to beat my 7:35 from 2010 (but I probably won't manage it).
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
Go for it Daz and Splatcher.... I need a year off ;)
In reality I'm only not doing it as entered the whole Hardmoors 26.2 series and only later figured out that ione of those is day after this. Otherwise would be there (in the past might have done both).
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
hi euph :)
can we not talk you into doing Bullock Smithy one year?
are you doing Wye Valley One Way by any chance?
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
I might do all 3 of those Daz. See you at LToB, unless you are at Divedale Dipper
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
It's my first time so really looking forward to it, see you all there!
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
My first time too. How difficult can it be? :D

Ironically, Thats my usual LToB mantra. That and "f****** steep b****** hills" after about half way.
Daz - defiantely will do BS one day (week before a 60miler for me this year and usually knackered in September). Will have to have a look at Wye Valley.

Raaaargh. You is animal. I'll be running in your wake, Daz. Just checked my diary. I did 7:57 last year.
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
cheers Nick- checked mine too. Now I have to try to beat 6.43!
-
Re: Long Tour of Bradwell
I recced the second half last weekend, well Bamford onwards. The 'escalator' really did live up to it's name!
