No smilies in future then!! Thanks for the comments. ;) oops, sorry forgot!!
Who is coming out to play?
Its a 21st birthday bash:D
I've got my entry in - looking forward to it.
Me too,not done this one in years.
a bit of a slog on the way down :-(
Cool.
I wonder if we will get a view this year or will it be clag like last year.
That last bit of tarmac is cruel.
Ohhhhhhh yea!!! will be making the long 3 mile journey down to this one :-) ;-) see you there.
Up for a win Ifs?
that long descent should suit you
Hahaha!! Iawn Dyl.
Aye a win would be nice, but it's such a prestiguous race it, attracts some quality runners.
The descent of the mountain is awsome though, think I clocked 12 minutes from summit to ty nant last year but that took it's toll on the run along Gwernan lake, but recovered quite well for the tarmac descent.
Very tricky descent!!!!!!!! overcook the mountain and you WILL pay!!!
But a Class race and very fortunate to have it on my doorstep :-)
Is it worth pre-entering this or will there be plenty of places on the day?
Hi,
Anyone else doing this and 1000m the following Saturday??
Umming and ahhing as to whether it would be wise.
I`ve signed up for both ,deffo doing the Cader race but i dont think i`m going to do the 1000m now though,i`ve opted for a 10k race in Abersoch instead (jibber)
Down for this one. Meant to be a toughie!
I'm doing both, just think of it as a good training run!
Im doing this aswell - look forward to it - even got a spot in Brithdir for the caravan! Helping someone with the Joss Naylor on the 4th so wont be braving the 1000m ;-)
Ady - Guiness time :-)
Dylan, I'll have to try and get the missus to drive me down to Dolgellau then it would be Guiness time!!
He doesnt know it yet... :-)
Ive heard there must be good water in that area with the form If's and Dylan are in at the moment - so thought Id fill up...failing that...Guinness time :-)
Just spoke to the organiser and around 120 entries (postal).
Let's hope its good weather (depending on what good weather is!)
Bad news, water supply been cut off in Brithdir, due to invasion of Eryri lads!!! hahaha!!
The course is in good nick around the back of Llyn Gwernan so not bad at all, mountain upper half has got rougher though, but nothing a seasoned fell runner should worry about :-)
Where are you staying Dyl?
Are you staying Saturday night? you can join me for a long run on Sunday then ;-)
Had really been looking forward to this but will now have to miss with injury :-(
Good look everyone - enjoy it and finish with a smile :-)
Roclites or Mudclaws ? I suppose I'm asking how much tarmac really.
There's approx 3 mile road, 2 mile trail (Mud, roots footpath) and 5.5 mile open fell, saying that the lower half is stone pitched/steps man made paths but the top half is mostly rough loose scree. If wet the whole mountain/fell is very slippery and the trail section can be tricky with roots.
But at the end of the day I've done it twice now 2009 (hot and bone dry) and 2010 in wet conditions both ocassions with Mudclaws.
If it's wet then would opt for fell shoes, but like Snowdon, if dry then cant see much wrong with Road shoes or trail shoes but would avoid shoes that put your feet high off the ground or it'll be ankle twisting time!!
It's pissing down here now, think it's forcasted showers on saturday to so the ground is wet now. Wont dry out much now so fell shoes it is I think.
Ye,I`ve been thinking about what to wear for this one too.I`m between my Salomon speed cross 2 or Addidas Kanadia TR2.
Great race well organised and the weather held! That road section at the end is a killer!!!!
Ie,the weather was great and the race too.
chose to wear road shoes in the end..was ok,had no trouble at all.
Who won? Strong field?
Not sure who win but Meirionydd, Eryri & a CVFR runner were top 4 when they past me. The course record was nearly broken also, a good turnout.
yeh, strong field and some strong performances,Rich R ran well for 2nd Steve Cale 1st and Andy D 3rd If Richs was 6th but in a good time i think in about 1:25 ?? i dont know what happend to Lloyd T though,he was at the start line but did`nt see him after that??
i was in the top 10 coming off the mountain but lost about 3 places just before the woods and came in at 13th in the end (i think) a bit more work on my fitness i think.
Was a good field and the ocnditions were pretty good.
Lloyd Taggart won, just 9 seconds off the record! 1:21 something,
Rich Roberts second in 1:23 something.
Karl Gray 3rd (1:24)
just ahead of me (Steve Cale) (1:24).
Andy Davies (recovering more each week after his injury) was down in 1:25.
Ifan Richards next
then a Cardiff runner (sorry don't know name)
Then Paul Jones in on 1:33.
Great mountain, great race.
Hey that's a good read Rocksteady but not true I'm afraid. Lloyd won and Richy gave me a kicking on the downhill!
Rich is flying...hell of a strong field that...very good times too.
Good run by yourself.
Just read Ifs report on FB,must have been a different race i was seeing, missed Lloyd somehow.the first runner i saw coming off the summit was a mercia runner which i assumed it was you TGW and then Rich R and Andy D.
should have gone to Specsavers !!!
Yup great race, and as Steve said great mountain :-) really good to get the quality runners here, makes you push much harder!!!
The lad that came 7th was Michael Kalenberg of Cardiff AC. He's a welsh/GB U23 runner so no slouch.
Really happy to get 6th with the quality of runners today. Was 2nd last year with 01:31:09 and this year 6th in 01:27:36 :-)
Gutted for Lloyd though, so close and in awsome form!!
Lovey the finish line bantter to, the Cramps and Jelly legs after coming off the mountain haha!! brilliant :-)
Well done to all that finished :-)
This was a fantastic race, really nice mountain and a total buzz when you come back into town! Only my second fell race and managed to finish in 1:51 so very happy with that.
Al Tye has uploaded his photos already, bless him! http://www.fellrunningpictures.co.uk/rasygader2011.html
I don't know about anyone else but the boggy ground through the forest by the lake was horrible coming back, I did hear from someone that there was a firm route through there but I stuck doggedly to the ribboned route not knowing the area. The tarmac run-in was a joy after that so much so that I didn't care about wearing out the studs on my Mudclaws. If anyone enjoyed the bog, I can recommend Ras Beca.
The taped route is the fastest route through that section!! it's the only path thats kept in good order by the national park.
I've tried the 3 or 4 of the different routes and none of them are any faster.
When your on the inward run, when leaving the field over the stile you need to keep left, some cross the stile and go straight ahead!! Mistake, bog up to your knees and very slow running!! even though the path is cut up, it's still faster than struggling through bogs, thorns, bracken low branches etc! etc!
