mmm guess I will contact the organizer and try and find this booklet thingy...I want to do a reccie well before race day....thanks
Hi Daz, Geoff
Though Des G was doing leg 6, I did have a bit of a hand in the selections, maybe all will become clear tonight. Looks like a good team though
the route is clearly marked on the ol21 map,
organiser has published exceptions(leg2 to stoodley;leg3 to finish;leg4 jerusalem)
you do need to take the map when on a recce as every leg as a few grey areas,if you are unsure on any part, bang it on here and we collectively will help.
i am over leg2 there and back sat and leg3 and 4 sunday, may see you.
if your recce's on leg4 take 20p for the bogs at midgehole,we didnt,so lost out on topping our water!
Time for a quiz. 6 clips from 6 legs...

f) leg 5 - just after mixenden?

Well done, all correct, but Leg 5 clip was well after Mixenden, about a mile before the end.
Just been given the go ahead for leg 2 yahoo, we're gonna recy it on Sunday about 9:15am.
All leg routes are here, thanks to Horwich.

You will be early if you start at 5am!

Quiz time again. Which legs?:

Without checking the maps I'm only certain about one of these.
a) Leg 3 - Great Rock - obviously! Just before crossing Staups Moor down to the bridge before the road climb to Blackshaw Head.
Isn't this the place of local legend where they say the devil jumped from Stoodley Pike to Great Rock and you can still see the imprint of a cloven hoof in the top of the rock where the devil landed?
And the rock is covered in carved graffiti, some of it very old.
f) Leg 2 I think but not certain - looks like the part of leg 2 descending into Todmorden down the twisty road past the church.
Also no map, but Ill have a go.
a) Leg Three (Great Rock's known to Todmordians as Devil's Rock. As well as the devil it's also got lots of witch stories around it).
b) Leg one? After Ripponden
c) Leg Six I think, somewhere near Brighouse
d)Dunno, Brighouse again?
e)Leg Five, just before Mixenden
f) Sneaky, but Tod again. Leg Two
It's all been said before but just thought i'd summarise the change to the start/finish from prev years.
The best instructions seem to be on;
HorwichRMIHarriers
The race is organised by Halifax Harriers and they do seem to have noticed that the start/finish has moved! However their race entry details still lists the grid ref for the old start/finish at SE 080 224.
It looks like they just changed the date on last years document and banged it out again. It's pretty poor that they havent bothered updating it, but that's up to them i guess.
Stevie is correct with a=3 and f=2.
Duff is correct with b=1, Soyland town is just after Ripponden. And c=6, after the climb out of Bailif Bridge and just before the descent into Brighouse. d is not near Brighouse. Correct with e=5, but not after Mixenden, but just a mile into the leg, north of Wainstalls, where you cross the road after the big climb. Yes f=2, Salford is on the outskirts of Todmorden.
Stagger knows his stuff.
The erroneous grid reference given (080224) is neither the old nor the new start, but appears to be approximately where leg 1 from the old start joined the Calderdale Way after climbing up through the woods. So beware putting that into your sat.nav in your quest to find registration, as you may end up down the narrow looking Scholes Lane above Greetland.

I'm better with the western half of Calderdale (guess where I live!). I try to steer clear of the badlands in the east.
