~6 mile stroll Hawkshaw to Pilgrims Cross and back. Would have been a walk around the Bull Hill fell race route but the red flags were flying.
I've not run for two weeks now but my torn calf is improving day by day. Managed a nice 90min walk tonight on the the Brönte Moors from Ponden so I'm happy :)

Can't be arsed training tonight......not going to waste me time though.......trying to level up me Wood Elf on Morrowind and slay some mud crabs.
No running for me for a day or two? I can hardly move due to a bad back. Goodness know what the hell I have done as I was fine yesterday. By eck its sore i can't drive the ruddy car due to it as its so painful just what I need a week before the Snowdon race.
Cheers Alphin. Feel as bad today as I did yesterday if not worse? Day 2 of no running. Strange thing is I got injured the week before Snowdon last year and that put me out of the race having done it the previous few years. I did go and take photos of last years race though.
Fingers crossed I get some improvement over the next day or two or it could be a camera job again.

Busy day resting...strimming nettles up to ar....mpits then deer spotting with nine 9-15 year olds...who were a lot more interested than I thought they'd be...camp fire cider and now cant sleep...8k tonight
Day 3 of no running - Starting to get a slight improvement in my bad back.
Ive always found swimming a perfect way to ease sore joints/muscles etc.
On holiday in spain last year, my mate went on a jet-ski on the sea (i didnt do it because it was 50 quid!) and because of the waves he was taking a pounding each time he landed.
The next day he could hardly move because of his back....i forced him to get in the sea and swim....it worked a treat.;)
Had a good week including mountain-biking, a 3hour walk on Kinder, fell race and a mile race plus warm up/down. Chilling today; fish and chips for tea and by my reckoning its now beer o'clock! :cool::D
Feeling very tired today after a tough week last week. No running to report; just a bit of gentle stretching plus a few minutes standing on wobble-board on one leg :cool:
I dont do days of rest anymore. A day of rest to me means core work. Gotta make sacrifices now that im getting serious

I've got more to add to this one than today's training nowadays.
I must say I am surprised how well my running is going given that I'm having at least two days off after every session. I'm never running tired which feels good mind you.
Don't underestimate the power of rest. As long you run your little socks off every time you get chance to get out, it isn't that bad for you. :)

I agree with HHH, i believe in rest, rest, rest...but run like a idiot when you do.:D
thats a stupid approach...and no offence to Mr Dunn a runner of talent i could only wish to have.
I believe that steady mileage is the way and then run hard in races....with steady mileage and plenty of racing- form improves (i can tell) and hopefully an international vest will pop up as well
Strongly agree HHH. I am training 3 times a week, or even 2 when racing , and improving steadily each week. I never feel tired or sluggish and am always looking forward to doing the hardest of sessions, rather than feeling as if they are a chore. All the signs are good :cool:

Read sarah rowells book tom, she really gets the point across about how important rest is and how people get so caught up worrying about missing a days training or not reaching a certain weekly milage when really they should be thinking about the lack or rest they get.
Been out for a hilly walk this morning, was going to do a long run, but decided to do nothing for the rest of the day, feeling lazy:o
This is an interesting debate. I am attempting to train consistently this year and improve my stamina and speed but rest days are an important part of that. From the limited experience that I've had, I not only run faster but also enjoy myself more when I include rest days. Last year I had a few weeks where I trained and did three races a week (road, cross country and fell) and I was knackered and suffered in other areas of my life with poor concentration and lack of creativity. Like HHH and some of the others say...it is about striking the balance between the rest of my life and running. I like to cycle too so I often do that on a non-running day.
However, I am not looking for an international vest just to be the best I can be and enjoy it. Good luck TurboTom, you've obviously got determination, just be careful not to burn out or injure yourself and don't think it is the end of the world if you miss one session.

If you want to be a decent runner id say theres no avoiding the miles though! do you mean three actual session a week e.g. speedwork, hill reps etc.... and then what you call 'rest' is steady running inbetween? The attitude that 'less is more' is thought by many to be the reason we've got such a weak generation now compared to the 80's. Yes speed/quality is important but getting steady miles inbetween is equally vital. Just have a look what sort of mileage the vast majority of top runners are doing! obviously though the key with youngsters is building it gradually, and this way you should be able to handle 100+ miles a week when older.
Obviously this is if your body can handle and lifestyle etc....

I think the problem is you can't do 40 races a year and 100 miles a week.
In cycling the long steady miles are done in the winter,off season,to gain a base. Then during the race season,the miles are reduced and efforts are brought in to replace the long miles. Shorter but harder sessions. It's all relative mind. There periods of lower mileage are still alot more than most peoples idea of "low".
yes. i do generally 2 hard, one easy . Just doing 5 or 6 miles at a steady pace completes my day and then loosens up the muscles for the next day.
My mileage is no where near 100 more like 30
