Even I almost enjoyed the descent on this race! :w00t:
Although I've only done half of it!!
I think this is the only race where I held my position from the top to the finish last year - loved it. Working this weekend otherwise would have had a trot.
There were some great photos of the rocky descent taken during the 2009 race. I recall one in which it looked as if I was surfing.
Think I'll need grip, so will debut my new Talons. Look out for me in Calder hoops and box-fresh footwear.
There was mist on the highest part of the route but below that it was a crackin' day.
As shown 'ere...Brett givin' me the cold shoulder...

Damn straight
I was a fatty that day!
Unfortunately, this year I'm going to have to jump the wall - no way of fitting through that gap!

As has been said before, cracking descent:

Working this weekend Jez but I suspect roles would have been reversed this year!!
Did'nt realise Mike Walsh was also on our tail - he is one class V60. Emma's no slouch either - my biorhythms must have been well lined up that day!!
Ha, ha, not so sure mate ! Can't be there either. My son's got a cross country race in Huddersfield ! Mmmmm, let me think, Kettlewell or Huddersfield, where would I rather be ........??
Photos of today's event though they came out awful. The thickness of the mist seems to have ruined the camera's ability to focus properly and i could have done with finding out how to change to a mode with a faster shutter speed, so they're not exactly Al Tye quality. It was bloody cold up there compared to the valley bottom, picked up a sneaky route idea for next year off the other marshal. The last runner was a frenchman, i think it was his first ever fell race, he said he's never seen anything like it before! Well done Holmsey who was miles ahead of everyone at the turn.
Mr & Mrs Sportsunday were there to capture all your uglyness!

Love the one of Holmsey, 7th thumbnail. Quite a few forumites spotted.
Is GW1_0027 Will Marsh? How did he do, he looks well up the field at that point?
Yes def Kristian.
Was talking to him before the off and he asked me about the profile of the course. His dad was up on Dow Crag willing him on. He took some bloody catching :o. Def got a bright future ahead of him. I race against him a lot and it really is good to see someone so young from down near me do well.
A great day today. Perfect weather and brilliant organisation. Loads of forumites. Mr1470, Brett, Turbo Tom, Fleeter, Swift to name but a few.
I was thinking as i ran up if any of us would get near Holmsy, haha the man is like a machine. He was well in the distance.
Fleeter did two forward rolls on the final descent. Be interesting to see if Alan Greenwood captured it on film.
I think Holmsey was just over a minute ahead of Ted mason at the end
Just got home & done results for Brett.
Thanks once again for your support & positive comments.
My only negative point which I'm forced to comment on once again is, why do some runners turn up at the start without the stipulated equipment? I always post notices at registration & go round shouting it out. This year I only requested carrying a waterproof top & I had to send two runners back to their cars to get them. They were not pleased and it resulted in delaying the start by 5 mins. Come on guys, don't force me to sound like a jobsworth & help me out here. We don't request you carry equipment for your personal benefit, but for the benefit of all.
Oh and someone left a rather expensive looking running top in the field. If they contact me with a description I will arrange its repatriation.
Pete
Mr Holmes was lookin' real easy...

one of the best in the calendar in my opinion.
nice to see some old faces.
talking to holmsey who said he had a steady year this year,
blimey,if that speed is after steady what would he have been like after a hard year?
Agreed, really good race and for once i actually felt fast going downhill!
Three tops next for me.
Great photos Wharfeego, but sadly none of me.

When you called me neb the other day i was baffled as i havnt put neb in my user name although i often go as nosemineb! I couldnt access my profile as it comes up with errors. So couldnt double check what i have put in there.
I ve done the 3 peaks cyclcross and many cross races so guessing we have maybe met there? Come on spill the beans..
Thanks for the photo

Neb!
