I'm not sure payment is necessary, what the BMC do for the 'Summit' is provide the author with guidebooks, something similar would be nice, at most I'd favour a Pete Blands/other running shop Voucher that the FRA could purchase therefore supporting the sponsors thereby keeping the money in the sport?
I had the same problem with the last issue- Britta put me in touch with Debbie Thompson (membership enquiries)- it turned out my direct debit had no reference number attached to it so they had no idea I'd paid. The summer issue arrived with no probs this time around.
Her contact details are in the front of Fellrunner (if you've got a previous copy- if not PM me and I'll give you an email address)
I have to say, I'm MASSIVLEY impressed with the fellrunner!!! I expected a magazine like you get from the BMC (which is really good), but the quality of production of the fell runner is just another level!! 3 magazines and a hand book as well for only £8 a year. Glad I subscribed now :D
As always a great magazine - gets better all the time.
However, was saddened to read of the demise of one of our members - Jimmy Niblett.
I wonder what Jimmy's thoughts are on the article? I hear he's not in brilliant health but still very much with us!
I presume there'll be an apology in the next issue.
Gordon - We've been made aware of this error very soon after publication and Bill S is looking into what went wrong.
He's been on the phone to Jimmy already, but due to his ill health wants to go see him in person once he has cleared up how he sourced the wrong information.
Bill certainly intends to submit an appology for the next issue.
Britta
Just wanted to say thanks for another superb magazine Britta and contributors. Well Done!
Britta,
I didn't mean to make it sound like a criticism - these things happen!
As someone who spent a number of years producing pages for the likes of Northern Runner and Midland Runner as well as a number of other publications in the industry, I do think that magazine is exceptionally good these days (not that it has ever been poor) and stands out against anything in the magazine field.
Regards G
Is the next issue out soon?:)
Sorry for the impatience:o
Try reading this recent thread .
just got the spring issue in the post today thanks, was in need of some reading material
ARGH! Only just altered my address after moving house - hope it comes here and not to the old place!
I got mine this morning....the kids will have to fend for themselves today!!
ah yes, 2 years ago . I understand now !
Got mine today, nice to see Amex's article and the Bill Smith tributes, humble as owt but inspiring tale about The Noor coming back from a broken back, respect Ben. And some great B/W Hobble photo's. Harry H Howgill doing battle with Ted (give me socks instead of gloves) Mason an all, great stuff, thanks to all responsible:thumbup:
I've yet to receive mine. I can hardly wait after that precis, Steve. I don't know how they manage to fill such a weighty publication with so much interesting material every time. The Hobble stuff is timely, given that it's not much more than 3 days away now.
Got mine - good old Royal Mail!
Had a meeting with Mountain Rescue tonight - showed them my copy - the local leader thought it might a good idea to run a feature on the work of mountain rescue teams and saftey on the fells / planning safe races - wonder if the editor might be interested for next issue???
Usually in bed by 10pm but stayed up reading the mag and then couldn't get to sleep... I am not cut out for this level of excitment!
Really enjoyed the Junior profiles by Dave Woodhead. Stars of the future?
Daleside is in the mag too!
Christ! Trig, please don't. Just buy the Mountain Rescue man a pint.
Did anyone else see the picture of Sarah Bailey on about p.63 and think, blimey, that blind lady behind her is doing well!
It took me about three looks to get my head round the fact that it was a white stick in the ground. But with her big black shades etc...
And I liked the way the article on Paul Carman(?) merges with the bits written by his sons. One minute he's talking about work and life, and the next minute he's saying I came 3rd in an under 12s race! :)
And did anyone else read the title on page 116 - Moot Hall to Chamonix - and think, 'Blimey, that's what I call an ultra!'
Yes! :w00t:
