LDWA events

Regret to say you may not get results from Scarborough Rock because LDWA events don't always have them and often the certificate you get does not show the time on it either. You just have to keep a record yourself. Certainly this was so on That's Life. The reason for this is that LDWA events are not supposed to be a competition as such but just a challenge for each individual. Must admit that even as an LDWA member I like to see my mates times so naturally we do them for The Hebden. Hope this might stop you searching for something that does not exist when you could be out training or whatever.

True on the results Alan, though depends on local LDWA group I suppose. I'm fairly sure I saw some from Rudolph Romp. Which was organised by East Yorks like the Rock.

So who's doing Rombalds? Could be interesting if the snow continues. My preference for these things is a bit soft underfoot, but I was told by a friend of a recent recce'r that they had nearly gone waist deep in mud up there on the moor a week ago. When I last ran over the same bit it was completly iced over and nearly weight supporting.

No ice currently. Well over an inch of snow so far and the next lot just rolling in. Some of this morning's was being blown sideways so expect some drifting on the top.

Sorry, Drunkeneuphoria, there are results for Scarborough Rock. I have a PDF copy of them and to make amends can send you a copy if you have not received yours by email. Glad I was too late with an entry for Rombalds. You will need Eskimo snow shoes to get round.

The new Rombald's route may be more 'character-building' with the increase in moor-top running, but snow and ice are preferable to slop and bottomless bogs, unless the snow is a foot or more deep. :eek:

I agree on weather BritNick, if ice hardens things up a bit it can be a bit easier on the legs. However if its chopped up snow thats iced up it just presents an equal challenge due to traction/grip loss. Also doesn't help much if there is a small blizzard going on :(

Clear blue skies currently. No melting though - temperatures around zero.

Snow depth about 3 inches around me (altitude 150m overlooking the route between Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston)

Ran over Top withins on the other side of the valley today. Snow had drifted but boggy areas were not frozen just covered in snow and a thin coating of ice. Went up to my knees a couple of time, spect Ilkley area will be the same tomorrow. Also all drainage ditches were full of snow and difficult to spot so went in some of them as well.

What a great day out for the Rombalds:), lot more snow than I expected over the moors but more than happy to be a mid packer...just followed the trail in the snow. Those guys at the front must have felt like snow ploughs. Also meant there was no chance of getting lost, if you lost the footprints you were off course. fantastic views in the sun and top marks to the organisers, those cakes and drinks on route were well appreciated.

Enjoyed the new route more, love the running over the moors, great fun downhill in the snow, didn't fall over once to my suprise and only having to climb the chevin once was more than welcome. Made a nice change not to get knee deep in bog, got feet a little muddy when blasting through the bog towards the masts but feet never got cold at all.

will there be a results sheet anywhere ? know not all LDWA events have results but their printer broke at the end so haven't even got got the certificate. although I've got my garmin time, would be nice to see it all offical like !

If anyone has entered the Anglezarke Amble and for whatever reason now can’t do it, would you let me know? This is the fist time in 4 years that it's filled up so quickly

was in August last year, but nothing in LDWA calendar yet for 2009...?

Hate to tell you this but RMT is on 18th July, the same day that we i.e. Calderdale Group, run Moors The Merrier. We moved our event to a week earlier to avoid holidays and blow me RMT sneaked theirs in without a word. Anyway a peek at our website might put you off so have a look at www.alangreenwood.biz/index.html

One event in the LDWA calender for 2009 which has attracted a lot of attention from FRA members from all over the country (including one or two legendary names) is the Old Crown Round. This route traverses 22.6 miles of wild and mainly trackless country at the back of Skiddaw in the Northern Lakes. The summits of Carrock Fell, Blencathra, Skiddaw, Great Cock-up and High Pike are taken in en-route making an impressive tally of over 8000 feet of ascent and descent. This is a brand new event and as such records will be set. The field is limited to 120 and currently there are 75 (a roughly 50/50 mix of walkers and runners) signed up. Entry is £15 per head which includes a pint at the Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket at the end of the run, and money raised from the event is going to the Lake District Mountain rescue Service. Anyone who wants to sign up should go to www.WanderingAengusTreks and click on 'Old Crown Round for further details and an on-line entry form.

I wanted to RUN the half Trollers Trot (12 miles) by way of training for the Grizedale 10 race on March 29th. But the entry form says the half is for WALKERS only. Shucks!

Not sure how rigorously they will insist on this. With the Anglezarke Amble I did the long with one son and my husband did the shorter one with younger son- it said walkers only and they ran/ jogged. I think the main issue was that if you ran it fast they would not have mrashalls ( or food) in place

Think this is true. Marshalls are sometimes at the check points before the set times but they don't always like runners arriving who won't follow the courtesy of the event.

If you run with walkers you will be running alone, will get to checkpoints before they open, won't get any food and will arrive back at the finish way, way before you are expected.

So what is the point? Other than just doing what you want to do!

Me! Trollers Trot last year was my first ever event, so it holds a special place in heart :o

Good to see the weather forecast is predicting a howling westerly wind on Saturday - the last four miles should be just as much fun as last year!

Anyone doing the LDWA Wye Forest 50 on the 25th (and, for me, the 26th)?

Couldn't get an entry, so having to do our own 50 down the Wye valley trail next week :(.

Have you thought of coming up for the Woldsman? Cracking route!

Not really, Missus is walker and both trying to train for the 100 in May - kind of last minute panic :eek:. Just want to trod out a 50 together and go home to a beer :D
