What about that weather today! Club social ride up to the Dales, probably 70 miles or so. Some brisk sections on the way back and all told a good ride out in what may have been the warmest day of the year yet up this way.
Normal service is resumed. The bike has been retrieved from the cold damp shed and sits proudly dripping in it's rightful place in the front room because..............I've been out for a ride, just a short one, about an hour, and a slow one, very slow in places actually, but that being said, I'm back, well sort of!
Unfortunately I have broken a promise I made to myself, my wife, children and dog, the Dalai Lama, all higher beings, the choir episcopal, Warren Gatland and St. Shane Williams that when I went out for my first ride it would be nice and warm and dry and not raining, wet or slippery in any way. It was all of the above, I am truly sorry and repent for this consort with Beazulbub himself. However, I did survive, a little nervously I admit. Please do not tell anyone, especially Mrs T.:eek:
Confidence will soon be resumed. You are always concious of fast bends after an off. I came down a lovely descent with several twists yesterday (dropping into Austwick from Helwith Bridge side) and there is no better feeling than sweeping round the bends at speed counter steering using all the road when you can see a few bends ahead - fantastic!
Missed the training ride at 09:30 due to being on the last minute and finding a flat tyre when I got the bike out
Just did a short 2 hour potter into the Ribble valley and called in at Pendle cycles and bought a pair of Easton EA 50 L wheels for the winter bike. New bars, BB and crank and it will be all fixed up.
Emmi,
NEVER, not even once, don't start, ever; they get themselves out, they can get themselves back. There are only 2 exceptions and one of those is a maybe, these are:
1. For some unfathomable reason you have loaned them your bike it is legitimate to retrieve it - and them if suitably clean for the inside of the car.
2. Arterial bleeding combined with them owing you money (it is a judgement call on how much cash warrants their being collected).
Tough love maybe but there are limits.
'Her indoors' does not drive so I had to go back later to collect all by myself!
Just an hour and a half of gentle lobbing along. Did Toffer's corner, very slowly:eek: All ghosts exorcised!
40miles very very fast and i bonked big style:(
just managed to get to the shop for a coke and star bar.
Only a salad at dinner
You bonked on the bike?? Doesn't that belong on the "creative in the bedroom" thread??
A hilly 40 miles, my first proper ride back. Confidence returning, though not sufficient to spark any pedals just yet. Only hit 42mph on the big descent to Blaenlechau(now there's a name lovely), bit of scaredy cat braking when in the past I might have let it go and gone for the big 50! I wonder why.....
Wrecked now though, gonna have to drink beer!
It is a very sad state of affairs but soon to be rectified..... no excuse really other than life in general
As you well know I do indeed pump up my own tyres unless you're offering to do them for me.... in the sombrero ;)
Bike/run tommoz if ya fancy joining in Em?
I'm back to work Friday
If this beasty weather continues tomorrow i may be tempted to make the most of it and get a ride in before work.:D
I hope its as good as this for saturday whilst im getting lost trying to find fiensdale haha.
What a day to be out and about! 16 of us set off and with the help of a tailwind, we flew through the lanes out to Longridge and Garstang at a rapid rate of knots. Here I peeled off and headed through Scorton and through the Trough Of Bowland, Dunsop Bridge, Whitewell, Little Switzerland, Bashall Eaves and back to Whalley and home. Fantastic clean, dry lanes with a low traffic volume made all the more pleasant by clear skies and sun. Cracking ride, probably 70 miles and 4 hours.
Ady, i think if i was to do 70 miles, my legs would be jelly for weeks.
Sometimes when i set off to work (its only 3 miles so i bomb it there and back each time) my legs are like lead and it seems as though ive done a 100 miler the day before. I cant understand it.
Do you eat much whilst your on your 70 miler etc rides.
A 2 mile sprint for me today whilst i gave the fecking lawn mover chance to have a think about itself as it didnt want to start after not using it since when ever it was last!
35 today, so half of Mr Ady. But just as much fun, gorgeous weather, beautiful day for riding, knees and arms on display!
Come on Emmi, get out there!:D
Looks good down here, you should be ok:)
No stop, 2 bananas and 1 litre of orange cordial today and 2 crumpets for brekie :)
You want to get yourself out on a club ride with a group, the miles fly by when you are sat in the group chatting. Doing the distance is fairly easy with a little bit of conditioning - it's doing the distance fast which is the hard part!
2.7 miles to the chip shop and back. Took about 45mins as the first 30mins involved fixing a puncture!!
