That was a dry and dusty one, especially in the garage carpark at dusk with the wind blowing as we waited for the results. Thanks to the organisers and helpers, and to the tea and cake sellers at the finish. That homemade chocolate chunk cake was pure heaven. What a fantastic first evening race of the season.
Excellent photos posted so far too. I took a few as I ran round. I'll post them when I get a chance.

Surprised I made the top 40 actually.
30 seconds -ish slower than 4 years ago...bugger! Maybe Calderdale took more out of me than I thought. Always next year...

I've just uploaded my pictures.
It appears from the Glossopdale Harriers website http://glossopdaleharriers.wordpress.com/ that the Herod Farm race on Wed. 16th April is no longer registered with the FRA. The notice states that it is now registered with Scottish Hill Runners. It was originally included in the 2014 FRA Handbook and Fixtures Calendar as an FRA race.

Can someone please clarify how tough this race is? Is it a cat A or B race.
Would it be suitable for a novice/beginner fell runner?

It was an 'AS' but we can call it anything we want now can't we now that it's a hill race rather than a fell race? An AS kicker, perhaps? It should really be moved to the 'Other races' section as well after its 'relegation'. ;) :rolleyes:
Joking aside, suffice to say it's intense. Save all your cake-eating until afterwards otherwise you'll be horribly sick.
I shall see what i can do to actually bring a brush to sweep you all up as I meander my way around picking up the flags.
Noel... youve already tested yourself against my newly found speed. That was at Pendle. I might have lost it again now, I'm sure I stashed it somewhere "safe".
As for being ok for beginners, it was my first fellrace after I moved to Glossop, and I hadnt really done any decent running before, so yes, absolutely. As barnyC says... save some energy for that second climb.
Will be good to catch up Nick - havent see you in a while.
you won't be the only one running it as a beginner...I know of one other who's racing tonight and done only a few off-road runs. it was technically my first ever fell race too, I'd done a few orienteering races but those are against the clock usually.Quote:

Having grown up in Scotland I can confirm that the hill has many Scottish features!
I really enjoyed the race last night. Perfect evening Thank you very much to the RO, Glossopdale and everyone else who helped out.
Although I have to say I was slightly bemused by the two (identical) white ponies in the field before the last climb. By the way they were stood, one slightly behind the other, it looked like a two headed horse!

Big thanks to organiser and marshals. This race is so friendly and it is good for first timers. Speaking to Rob Goulsbra of Stockport he said it was his first last year.
Cyclops, I hope I said hello to you but can't be sure. There are times when red-lining in these races that normal manners may desert us.

Yes indeed, lovely to see so many people turn up to a nice little toughie, good to see a fair few racers from various clubs sampling the delights of the Glossopian public houses as well. Socialising can be as important as racing.
Good running by you lot, I had a lovely time sweeping around and picking up flags. Twas a lovely evening for it.
